POSITION: Activities Director/Dean of Students
DEPARTMENT: Administration
JOB TITLE: Dean of Students/Activities Director
SUPERVISES: The K-12 activities programs, coaches, activity sponsors, and all other personnel involved in West Central Valley activities programs.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee (building principals)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters Degree in Educational Administration
The ability to effectively communicate with parents, students, and community members
Demonstrated ability in personnel administration, good communicator, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent organizational skills
Knowledge of all student governing bodies policies and rules involving West Central Valley students.
Ability to work with the administrative team concept
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Proficient in use of technology

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Demonstrates commitment to the district mission: West Central Valley School District prepares students for success.
Performs responsibilities within the overarching framework of the Iowa Standards for School Leaders (ISSL).
Support/assist building principal(s) in day-to-day management of the building.
Supervise building in the absence of the principal.
Keeps principals aware of building level concerns and issues.
Attends meetings with principal(s) to review tasks, attendance and behavior as needed.
Attend IEP/504 meetings on an as needed basis.
Directs the reporting and monitoring of K-12 student attendance.
Assists in the reporting and monitoring of K-12 student discipline as needed.
Promotes the school and district through positive relations with students, staff, parents.
Assists in the management of district social media.
Assists in providing supervision of all students while maintaining confidentiality and is a positive role model for students.
Manage the teacher induction and mentoring programs.
Assists in planning, implementing, and supervising emergency preparedness.
Assists in the facilitation of professional development for staff and serves as a member of various building teams to act as a liaison.
Evaluate each head coach, athletic coach, cheerleader sponsor, and dance team sponsor. Report such evaluations to the building principal and superintendent.
Organize, administer and assume the responsibility for the overall activities program of the district. Coordinate the calendar of events, scheduling all activities and practices (regular and special). Make arrangements for the use of facilities. Implement appropriate rules for the use of facilities and oversee the rules and regulations governing the use of facilities as per school district board policy.
Administer the activity budget. Coordinate and approve all requisitions for activity program supplies, uniforms, and equipment.
Maintain student medical physical records in conjunction with the school nurse.
Monitor practices and performances of the athletic coaches, cheerleading sponsors, dance team sponsor as well as student activity events. Assist coaches/activity sponsors with practice plans, game plans, team strategies and philosophies.
Assist in the selection and assignment of all personnel involved with activities.
Provide orientation programs each year for all coaching personnel.
Supervise the coaches in maintaining records of the results of all athletic contests and the amount of participation of each contestant. Coordinate recognition programs for participants of activity programs and maintain a file of all award winners.
Coordinate publicity and news releases pertaining to the activities program and make arrangements for news media including designated seating areas at home events to promote positive public relations with the community.
Provide liaison between the school and booster clubs who support school activities.
Arrange for visiting schools' needs (e.g., athletes, managers, cheerleaders, coaches, etc.) at all state-sponsored contests assigned to the district.
Coordinate with the building principals for those students involved in multiple activities to minimize conflicts.
Coordinate the supervision of West Central Valley events.
Contract for home events officials, provide for their payment, safety and notify them prior to events.
Provide for contest programs, program information, ticket sales and the proper handling of monies involved.
Make arrangements for transportation for all activities.
Ensure that all equipment is cleaned, repaired, stored and properly inventoried.
Monitor, with the building principal, eligibility of participants.
Represent the district at conference, district, state and national meetings as directed by the Superintendent.
Handle disputes between coaches, parents, and sponsors.
Perform other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
240 contracted days per year
Salary and benefits are to be determined by the board
