What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Manager position at West Fraser?
At West Fraser, our Production Manager is responsible for the crews' leadership, operation, and staffing for the daily production of oriented strand board (OSB). The Production Manager is responsible for ensuring safe operation of equipment, quality of OSB, achieving production targets, and ensuring that operator-level maintenance is performed on all equipment at a very high standard.
What you will do:
• Review processing schedules or production orders to make decisions concerning manufacturing requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments, considering headcount and budgetary limitations and time constraints.
• Direct and coordinate production and labor to gain margin improvement
• Develop or implement production tracking or quality control systems, analyze the production, quality control, or other operational reports to detect production problems
• Mentor assigned personnel and promote efficiency and build leadership and team skills
• Direct process improvements in the work area to gain efficiencies
• Communicate effectively with all team members and ensure miscommunications are minimized
• Coordinate with other senior staff members on personnel, safety, finance, and purchasing issues, looking for ways to increase and enhance all functional areas
• Lead by example
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the General Manager
Requirements you will need:
• Demonstrated success leading a manufacturing production team with at least 5 years in a manufacturing environment.
• BS or BA diploma or equivalent experience
• Strong leadership/PEOPLE experience in growing and developing supervisors
• Ability to work as part of a team and deliver value to the team
• Experience developing methods or procedures to gain efficiency and margin improvement
• Ability to define and communicate expectations and then hold people accountable
• Set performance standards and monitor individual and team performance
• Training others to gain efficiency and increase production levels
