What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medication Refill Specialist position at West Front Primary Care?
Responsible for handling telephone and portal medication refill requests per physician standing orders and/or West Front Primary Care’s workflow policies. Handles all Medication Prior Authorizations as well as Patient Assistance and medication samples.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Receives written and verbal prescription refill requests and verifies that the information is complete and accurate.
- Confers with providers as needed to clarify prescription re-fill protocol.
- Follows refill guidelines and/or provider direction and sends re-fill request to pharmacy or provider as appropriate.
- Participates in multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care processes and outcomes.
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of telephone-based assessment techniques
- Exhibits sound and accurate judgement
- Clear understanding of clinical pharmacology
- Deep understanding of WFPC interdepartmental processes, workflows and policies
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring, especially via telephonic communication
- Proficiency with EMR and other technology-based healthcare systems
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone and in writing.
- Must project a pleasant and professional image
- Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.
Experience: 1-3 years experience working in a clinical or pharmacy setting.
Education Requirements: Certification as a Pharmacy Technician, Certified MA or Registered MA or state LPN or RN Licensure required.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing / sitting for long periods of time
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, copier, telephone, and other office equipment
- Occasional stress caused by multitasking and level of responsibility
