CONNECT Nurse

The mission of West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) is to “Serve West Point and the Long Gray Line.” WPAOG is both the alumni association and foundation for the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point. Our vision is to ensure the Long Gray Line remains the most highly connected alumni body in the world. USMA is renowned as the world's preeminent leadership development institution. The student body, or Corps of Cadets, numbers 4,400, and each year approximately 1,000 cadets graduate and are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.

The WPAOG is seeking a Nurse for the CONNECT Program, a part of the Alumni Support Department. As a part of the Alumni Support Team, these individuals will assist and directly report to the Director of the CONNECT Program. CONNECT is an after-school program supported by the West Point Association of Graduates (AOG) in collaboration with the Highland Falls Intermediate School and part of the AOG Hudson Valley Project (HVP) in the WPAOG-HVP, LLC. CONNECT is an AOG initiative and supports West Point and AOG as it enhances the quality of life for prospective USMA Staff and Faculty, and the overall community.

CONNECT Nurse Reports to the Director of CONNECT Program, Alumni Support Initiatives, West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) and has responsibility of overseeing the health and safety of students participating in the CONNECT after school program and for planning and executing segments of the CONNECT after school/ out of school time program with the purpose of providing learning opportunities to students of the Highland Falls Intermediate School.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment for all students.
  • Regularly report to the Director of CONNECT Program.
  • Provide first aid and illness assessment for students in our after school program.
  • Triage medical emergencies, provide appropriate care, and make medical referrals as necessary.
  • Collaborate with parents regarding student health issues and updates on student health needs.
  • Provide direct nursing care to students and staff members in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Assess and evaluate the health needs of students and provide appropriate interventions and treatments
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers
  • Monitor and manage chronic health conditions of students, such as asthma, diabetes, and allergies
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate care until additional help arrives
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop individualized healthcare plans for students with special needs
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all students
  • Educate students, staff, and parents on health-related topics, including disease prevention, nutrition, and hygiene practices
  • Will support the educational program and work in segments of the CONNECT curriculum based on the incumbent’s skills and experiences.
  • Curriculum segment areas of can vary from social sciences, English, sciences, tutoring, activities, fitness, health, culture, music, etc.
  • Manage and account for equipment and the maintenance of program sites.
  • Represent the program to visitors and stakeholders to include most importantly students, parents, and the community.
  • Cultivate positive relations with the Principal, Assistant Principals, HFFMCSD administrators, AOG staff, teachers, parents, and key constituents in the community.
  • Collaborate with the Highland Falls Intermediate School Nurse regarding student health issues and updates on student health needs.
  • Help in developing and implementing innovative and age-appropriate learning events, enrichment activities, and theme-based projects.
  • Promote positive character development in all students.

Qualifications: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) License. Previous experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in a school or pediatric environment. Native or fluent Spanish language skills is a plus.

Reliable transportation to and from work are a must. This position does not offer benefits and will pay approximately $30-$35 per hour based on skills and experience. Schedule is flexible with a maximum of 4 hours per day, 5 days per week during the academic year. Some nights and weekends may be required.
