FUNCTIONS:
- Organize and implement individual and group activities both inside and outside the facility.
- Maintain a balance of social, recreational, religious, therapeutic, and educational programs to try to appeal to as many residents as possible.
- Assess new residents to determine capabilities, interests, etc. upon which to build a successful, individualized activities program and assist with the sections of the MDS that apply to activities; update these assessments on a periodic basis and whenever a significant change occurs in the resident’s physical, mental, or psychosocial state.
- Serve daily snacks to the residents following directions regarding the specific diets of each resident.
- Accept responsibility for maintaining activity records as needed.
- Coordinate the volunteer program.
- Assist with preparing the department budget.
- Prepare the department staffing and resident activity schedules.
- Recruit and train new activity staff when needed.
- Graduate of a high school or sufficient education to carry out the duties as stated.
- Willingness to work with nursing home residents to enable them to function at the highest physical, mental, and psychosocial level possible.
- Must be a qualified resident activities coordinator as outlined by the laws of the state of North Dakota or else work with a qualified consultant until such time as he/she becomes qualified.
- Be able to plan appropriate activities for specific residents as well as for groups of residents.
- Ability to speak to a group to give directions, lead devotions, etc.
- Demonstrate skills in organizing and instructing activity programs.
- Demonstrate familiarity with appropriate crafts, games, and social programs.
