The mission of WSFSSH is to provide safe, affordable, senior housing that integrates compassionate property management with supportive services to enhance the independence and dignity of each resident. WSFSSH creates and preserves affordable housing while supporting the development of healthy neighborhoods.

JOB SUMMARY

For this active role, the Director of Food Service Operations will collaborate with the Program Managers, Social Service Teams and Food Service Staffs, in each program to ensure that the WSFSSH meal programs are providing safe and nutritious meals that will be prepared as described on each programs approved menus. In addition, the Director of Food Service Operations will lead a team that provides operational expertise in all facets of meal program management. This includes hands-on management of kitchen operations, staff engagement and timely meal provision for each program while ensuring compliance with Department of Health (DOH) kitchen maintenance, meal preparation and food storage standards.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for providing nutritious meals across multiple WSFSSH Senior Residences

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

Operations

  • Leads a team of experienced food service managers while providing hands-on management of WSFSSH food service operations.
  • Performs audits of safety, sanitation, food quality, meal delivery at point of service, a per DOH standards to optimize financial and operational performance.
  • Ensures compliance with all contracts and DOH requirements related to kitchen cleanliness and food safety.
  • Oversees the ordering and storage of food in the absence of the head cook / food service manager.
  • Participates in creating the budgets and monitoring the budget compliance of the WSFSSH meal programs.
  • Oversee all vendor relations (pricing, delivery, quality checks)
  • Completes quarterly kitchen inspections.
  • Ensures kitchen staff are following the posted menu and / or making appropriate substitutions if necessary.
  • Performs bi-weekly kitchen walkthroughs to monitor meal service functions and kitchen cleanliness.
  • Participates in the planning of the annual WSFSSH all staff gathering, which includes kitchen staffing, menu planning, ordering the food, paper supplies, and assisting with preparation, serving, and clean-up.

Staff Development

  • Supervision of temporary multi-site staff (MSS) and the coordination of MSS coverage for all food service programs.
  • Provides quarterly staff training on food safety and other food-related topics.
  • Participates in the recruitment / interviewing of all frontline kitchen staff.
  • Develops team members through training, coaching, and mentoring to ensure strong operational performance.
  • Program Development

  • Assists in maintaining program records and preparing reports as required.
  • Partners with Residential Kitchen staff on overall kitchen safety and efficiency.
  • Assists Property Management with kitchen equipment recommendations, obtaining new kitchen equipment quotes, and installation bids, as well as bids for equipment repairs.
  • Submitting grant applications and reports to emergency food relief programs for funding.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • REQUIRED KNOWELDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Experience in working with vulnerable populations highly preferred.
  • Competency in Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Effective communication skills—oral and written and leadership skills.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • High degree of flexibility and ability to work independently.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • REQUIRED & PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CREDENTIALS

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required.
  • BA preferred, or a certificate of completion from an accredited Culinary Institution.
  • At least 7 years of experience managing a kitchen which includes budgeting, compliance with DOH requirements, food ordering, food preparation, food storage, inventory, forecasting future food needs and staff supervision.
  • NYC Food Protection Certification - REQUIRED.
  • Must be able to travel between multiple sites daily. (Manhattan & Bronx locations)
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and / or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and / or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to lift at least 25lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
