VICE PRINCIPAL
WEST SPRINGFIELD HIGH SCHOOL
The West Springfield Public Schools is seeking a proven leader to be the next Vice Principal of West Springfield High School. The Vice Principal is both an instructional and cultural leader in the school, reports to the Building Principal, and works under the school committee policies and the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This role is critical in fostering a creative and inclusive learning environment where all students are supported, connected, and inspired to excel.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Embrace the diversity of West Springfield High School by fostering an environment of respect and inclusion.
-Assist the Principal in the general administration of the school, and serve as the school leader in the Principal’s absence.
-Foster a creative and inclusive learning environment in which all students are supported, connected, and inspired to succeed.
-Develop a strong, collaborative culture focused on high expectations for student learning and development.
-Coordinate efforts to promote a positive school culture and strengthen student engagement.
-Provide leadership on issues related to student behavior and attendance.
-Support, coach, and evaluate teachers, department heads, and support personnel to foster continuous growth.
-Plan and implement professional development for staff.
-Support the recruitment, hiring, and retention efforts.
-Model strong leadership qualities and exhibit actions that reflect the values of West Springfield High School.
-Oversee all scheduling using PowerSchool, ensuring accurate and efficient scheduling for a large building.
-Manage all testing, including MCAS and ACCESS, ensuring proper administration and compliance with standardized testing procedures.
-Perform other duties as assigned by the High School Principal.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-Deep knowledge of the state curriculum frameworks and the development of a standards-based classroom environment.
-Strong familiarity with social-emotional learning and culturally responsive teaching.
-Experience in scheduling a large building using PowerSchool.
-Strong familiarity with Multilingual Learner and Special Education programming.
-Experience in facilitating standardized tests in a large High School.
-Experience in a school leadership role, preferably in a diverse public school setting.
-Hold a valid Massachusetts administrator license as a Principal (5-12) by the time of appointment.
-Excellent communication skills – clear writer, facilitator, and excellent public speaker.
-Unshakeable ethics and integrity.
-Humility, resilience, and an eagerness to learn and improve.
-Five or more years of exceptional student growth/achievement results as an educator.
Salary: Per Unit B Contract
