SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Water Treatment Plant Operator performs operation, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the water treatment plant, pump stations, ground and elevated storage facilities, chemical feed systems, and SCADA system. Performs and assists with TCEQ reporting and maintains facilities and grounds to ensure a neat and tidy appearance. Follows safety policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate & Maintain Systems: Ensure smooth operation, monitoring, maintenance, and repair of the water treatment plant, pump stations, storage facilities, chemical feed systems, and SCADA system.
- Regulatory Compliance: Assist with TCEQ reporting and ensure all activities align with industry regulations.
- Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve operational issues, including emergency situations, to maintain uninterrupted service.
- Maintain clean and organized facilities and grounds for safety and efficiency.
- Assist in ordering repair parts and equipment while managing inventory.
- Safety & Compliance: Strictly follow safety policies and procedures to ensure a secure working environment.
- Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with WTCPUA staff, consultants, vendors, and contractors on operational matters.
- Reporting & Documentation: Maintain a weekly log of duties, update the inventory system, and ensure accurate record-keeping.
- Water Quality & Lab Testing: Collect samples, conduct lab analysis, and send additional samples to certified lab facilities for further testing.
- Professional Growth: Maintain memberships in professional organizations and complete continuing education as required for professional licensing.
- Support other tasks as assigned to contribute to the success of the team.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to adapt to new technologies, methods, and changing conditions in water treatment operations.
- Mathematical Skills: Comfortable calculating proportions, percentages, area, volume, and other relevant measurements.
- Problem-Solving: Capable of troubleshooting operational issues, analyzing system performance, and providing effective solutions.
- Communication: Strong ability to present information, respond to questions, and interact professionally with managers, customers, and team members.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with TCEQ regulations, SCADA systems, and municipal utility wastewater treatment processes (wastewater knowledge preferred but not required).
- Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately follow written and oral instructions, interpret technical documents, and maintain compliance with policies.
- Reporting & Documentation: Experience writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Teamwork & Collaboration: Able to establish and maintain open communication, fostering a cooperative work environment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school education or G.E.D. and three years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in public water treatment plants or systems.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Class C Texas Driver's License required.
- TCEQ Class C Water Operator License required.
- TCEQ Class B Water Operator License preferred.
- This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing.
