Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with all staff members to achieve the completion of daily work assignments, following proper shelter protocols.
- Manages the foster program, maintains records of foster homes, schedules proper vaccine and health checkups for fosters, reviews and updates foster records as needed.
- Seeks and maintains working relationships with volunteers, animal welfare organizations, and other shelters.
- Oversees the volunteers, including training and coordinating volunteers with appropriate tasks.
- Assists in behavioral assessments and matching appropriate animals with the right rescue or adopter.
- Helps oversee enrichment programs and follows fear-free guidelines regarding animal care.
- Maintains animal records as required in accordance with city ordinances and shelter policies on the care and disposition of animals including adoptions, transfer, and euthanasia.
- Performs euthanasia in accordance with Shelter Policies and Utah law.
- Performs other related business duties as assigned by the Director of Animal Services or other management staff to foster a positive public image, enhance organizational operations, improve animal welfare, and strengthen the services provided by WVCAS.
Requirements

- Knowledge of domestic animal behavior.
- Knowledge of domestic animal enrichment.
- Experience in working with governmental agencies, community groups, volunteers and animal welfare organizations.
- Ability to plan and implement projects with little supervision.
- Basic computer skills.
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 2 years’ experience in animal care working or volunteering in a veterinary hospital, animal rescue organization, or animal shelter.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Able to obtain a Euthanasia Certificate within 6 months of being hired.
- Valid Utah driver’s license with good driving history (or ability to get one).
Language Skills
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.

- Exposure to dead, sick, injured, unruly, vicious, and/or dangerous animals and intermittent exposure to parasites and infectious diseases.
