Summary
This position will plan, organize, and supervise recreational activities, special events, and youth and family programs for the community. Responsibilities include organizing and executing quality day camp, preschool, and childcare programs tailored to community needs. Will oversee program development, marketing, budgeting, and ensures compliance with childcare licensing standards. Prepare and distribute promotional information for programs and activities. This position will oversee specific areas of the facility and programs assigned by the Recreation Supervisor. Requires working flexible hours including weekdays, mornings, evenings, weekends, overnight and holidays.
Starting Pay: $24.81 per hour, additional pay depending on experience
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Requires working flexible hours including weekdays, mornings, evenings, weekends, overnight and holidays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Effectively communicate with staff and public. Ability to resolve customer service issues with adults and children.
- Plan, organize, supervise, carry out and evaluate programs and special events including: day camps, preschool, before/after school programs and childcare. Assist with implementation of other special events as assigned.
- Establish and enforce policies in accordance with childcare licensing standards.
- Collaborate with Parks and Recreation staff, Childcare licensing, Health Department, and Schools.
- Ensure program compliance with safety laws and regulations.
- Create and distribute promotional information for activities and programs.
- Help create and work within annual budgets including equipment, materials, personnel, etc. Monitor and evaluate program revenues and expenditures.
- Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate part-time and temporary staff, volunteers and related sub-contractors.
- Performs and coordinates the orientation, training, and evaluation of various employees. Including: Scheduling and driving City vehicles for camp activities.
- Transport self to and from various sites and terrains.
- Manage participant behavior and communicate professionally with parents/guardians.
- Prepare and maintain reports, inventory, equipment and other records. Ensure that all proper checklists and documents are created and completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assist with menu planning and meal preparation, ensuring compliance with licensing requirements.
- Purchase, maintain and replace equipment needed for programs.
- Apply, explain and enforce rules and regulations and adjust as needed.
- Uphold professional work behaviors and foster team relations.
- Attend all facility staff meetings as requested. Schedules and conduct staff meetings and training monthly.
- Assumes responsibility for completing related duties as required or assigned by the Recreation Supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Will supervise part-time and temporary employees for assigned programs and activities.
- May also supervise internship students and volunteers.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning and administration; knowledge of recreation programming and special event programing.
- 1 year experience working directly with children and in children's programs.
- Must pass extensive background investigation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, parents, employees, supervisors, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence.
- Knowledge of computer related applications.
- Problem solving skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Planning and organizational abilities.
Education and/or Experience
- Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in recreation or closely related field and one (1) year full-time professional recreation/Childcare program experience.
OR
- Five (5) years of full-time professional recreation/childcare program experience.
OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Recreation facility experience strongly recommended.
Language Skills
- Proficient in English (reading, writing, grammar).
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Possess a valid Utah driver's license
- CPR and Standard 1st Aid within three months of employment.
- Food Handler’s Permit within three months of employment.
- Necessary licenses/certifications for Childcare licensing as a childcare director or designee.
