Position Summary Information
Definition
The Athletics Department is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to fill the temporary position of Athletic Trainer.
Comprised of two colleges, West Valley College and Mission College, we are located in the heart of Silicon Valley. Our staff and faculty are among the most qualified in the state and our students appreciate our two colleges for our friendly staff and supportive atmosphere.
The purpose of this position is to perform care and prevention of athletic injuries for student athletes; to provide education regarding proper rehabilitation and treatment of injuries; and to develop and oversee conditioning programs for athletes in intercollegiate sports.

Assignment
This is a temporary, hourly position with a proposed start date of 11 / 12 / 2024 and end date of 3 / 4 / 2025.
Work Location : West Valley College, Saratoga, CA
Salary and Benefits
44.15 per hour
Due to the temporary nature of this position, benefits are not included.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be :
1. Experience : Two years of responsible athletic training or sports medicine experience.
2. Education : Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in kinesiology or a related field.
Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the following desired qualifications :
- At least two years of experience working with High School, Collegiate, or Professional athletes
- NASM or CSC certification
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of :
Human anatomy and physiology; general medical conditions typically affecting athletes.Emergency medical response; assessment and diagnostic techniques; first aid and CPR.Techniques, methods, equipment, and devices used in therapeutic rehabilitation.Procedures, protocols, and technology applications for concussion management.Ability to :
Evaluate injuries and apply appropriate care and preventative measures.On a continuous basis, know and understand all aspects of the job; intermittently analyze work papers, reports and special projects; identify and interpret technical and numerical information; observe and problem solve operational and technical policy and procedures.Intermittently, sit while studying or preparing reports; walk, stand, kneel, and bend while evaluating injuries or providing treatment; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation; use telephone; intermittently write or use a keyboard to communicate; and lift or carry weight of 25 pounds or less.Maintain accurate health and insurance records, and inventory sheets.Provide health care services including emergency care, first aid procedures, and CPR.Use sound judgment in recognizing scope of authority.Operate and use modern office equipment including computers and applicable software.Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities.Utilize appropriate safety procedures and practices for assigned duties.Communicate effectively orally and in writing.Relate effectively with people of varied academic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds using tact, diplomacy, and courtesy.Establish and maintain effective, cooperative, and collaborative working relationships with others.Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :
Provide initial evaluation and emergency first aid for athletic injuries.Determine appropriate therapeutic methods and use of therapeutic devices for athletic injuries; educate and demonstrate the use of various therapies and equipment.Maintain health records for student athletes; compile periodic reports of injuries and treatments provided.Provide on-site medical care coverage for home and visiting teams on game days; set up necessary supplies at athletic fields; perform pre-game prophylactic taping and wrapping as needed.Maintain inventory of necessary equipment, supplies, and medication; order medical and athletic training supplies as needed.Communicate with doctors, insurance companies, and coaches regarding student athlete injuries and treatments.Coordinate and administer health screening exams with team physicians; develop and prescribe preventative strength training programs and rehabilitation activities.Maintain a clean and safe work environment; clean and sanitize equipment as needed.Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other district employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.Perform related duties as assigned.Working Conditions
