- The ability to write clearly and concisely using correct grammar and spelling.
- Knowledge of Effective Schools/Teaching Research as it applies to the management of an elementary school.
- Knowledge/understanding of state initiatives: 21st Century Skills, Teach 21, RTI, Standards Based Instruction, and Professional Learning Communities.
- Knowledge/experience preparing an elementary school schedule.
- An ability to utilize current technology including, but not limited to, WVEIS.
- The ability to demonstrate and use Smart Find Express.
- Knowledge/experience observing and reviewing with teachers their performance in instruction and classroom management.
- Knowledge/experience assessing the needs of a school, evaluating the effectiveness of school practices, developing school improvement plans, setting goals, and establishing policies to manage day-to-day decisions.
- Knowledge/experience holding staff meetings, assigning staff responsibilities, analyzing school personnel needs, and arranging for staff development training.
- Knowledge/experience implementing the West Virginia Expected Behavior in Safe and Supportive Schools Policy and other applicable federal and state laws.
- Knowledge with regard to how test data analysis can improve learning, teaching, and student improvement.
- Knowledge/understanding of state assessments, benchmarks, and classroom assessments.
- Knowledge of how effective working relationships among administration, teachers, and parents leads to improved learning, confidence and morale for students, parents, and teachers.
- Knowledge of County Mission and Target Goals and the ability to prepare school goals and objectives to implement County Mission and Target Goals.
- Ability to write and direct implementation of school goals and objectives for the Five Year Strategic Plan following county specified criteria.
- Knowledge/experience preparing, allocating, and managing a school budget, and quasi-public funds.
- An outstanding attendance record in current position.
- A working knowledge and understanding of the needs, laws, and procedures regarding the education and discipline of students.
- The successful completion of the writing exercise and interview process.
- Any combination of training and experience which would lead to successful employment as an Elementary Principal
- Maintain effective working relationship with Superintendent, Deputy/Assistant Superintendent, and Central Office Administrators.
- Provide instructional leadership and support within the school building.
- Create and maintain a climate conducive to teaching and learning.
- Implement a system to monitor student progress.
- Establish and implement a school improvement system.
- Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary, according to due process rights of students.
- Establish good public and employee relations.
- Evaluate all staff members under his/her supervision.
- Plan and supervise fire drills and emergency preparedness procedures.
- Maintain school fiscal and ordering responsibility.
- Arrange for appropriate maintenance of building and facilities.
- Maintain professional work habits.
- Maintain and upgrade professional skills in order to accomplish job goal.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
