VARSITY HEAD COACH
RESPONSIBLE TO: Athletic Director / Assistant Principal and Building Level Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Demonstrate high ideals, good habits, and desirable attitudes in personal behavior and demand the same standards of the players
2. Exhibit a strong knowledge of the sport and demonstrate appropriate skills, techniques, and coaching methods.
3. Plan, develop, and implement a high-quality athletic program.
4. Exemplify good character, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior.
5. Maintain self-control at all times, accepting adverse decisions without public display of emotion or dissatisfaction with the officials.
6. Communicate expectations to the athletes, parents, and assistant coaches.
7. Recognize that the purpose of competition is to promote the physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being of the individual players and that the most important values of competition are derived from playing the game fairly.
8. Develop and maintain a sense of pride and enthusiasm among the athletes and coaches.
9. Encourage community involvement and foster good school-community relations.
10. Work with the Athletic Director / Assistant Principal and Building Principal in developing a game schedule that is reasonable, yet challenging.
11. Develop and implement an organized, effective written practice schedule that should adequately prepare the athletes for competition.
12. In cooperation with the school’s Athletic Trainer, develop and implement an effective, appropriate conditioning program for pre-season and practices.
13. Delegate authority and responsibility to the assistant coach(es).
14. Monitor students’ grades for athletic eligibility.
15. Encourage students to participate in the athletic program and oversee activities that will stimulate interest at the lower grade levels.
17. Provide athletes opportunities to participate in summer conditioning programs within current SSAC rules.

18. Demonstrate basic first aid skills and good judgment in determining the severity of an athlete’s
injury.
19. Oversee the safety conditions of the field or gym and equipment during all practices and games.
20. Recommend necessary purchases of equipment, supplies, and uniforms, and maintain a current inventory.
21. Enforce and abide by conference, state, and SSAC rules.
22. Communicate the varsity coaching philosophy at the J.V., Freshman, and Middle School levels, and work closely with those coaches to implement a coordinated program through the system.
23. Work closely with the other head coaches to implement the philosophy of the Varsity program. (i.e. Head J.V. Coach, Freshman Coach, and Middle School Coaches).
24. Perform other reasonable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated by the Athletic Director / Assistant Principal or Building Level Principal annually at the end of the season.

SALARY: Based on County Coaching Pay Scale ($2,300.00) plus $75.00 yearly increment for every verified year of experience coaching cross country, if applicable.
