The West Virginia Housing Development Fund (the “Fund”), a quasi-governmental organization providing safe, decent affordable housing across West Virginia, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Paralegal in our Charleston Office.
Job Summary: This employee is responsible for assisting in the preparation of loan documents for the Multifamily department and assists in the preparation of deeds, contracts, and other documents needed for all departments within the West Virginia Housing Development Fund (the “Fund”). The employee will be expected to perform his/her duties with the highest ethical standards and represent the Fund with the highest possible integrity, honesty, and fairness in all dealings with the public and business community. This employee will have access to sensitive and confidential data; therefore, confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
Essential Functions:
- Develops and maintains an understanding of all of the Fund’s multifamily programs and works closely with multifamily staff in reviewing due diligence items and drafting loan documents in compliance with all Fund programs;
- Drafts deeds, releases, loan modification agreements, and other legal documents needed for all departments within the Fund;
- Assists in research of federal and state housing statutes and regulations regarding the development and operation of multifamily projects;
- Assists in the drafting documents for new programs, as needed;
- Assists with the Fund’s REO portfolio, bankruptcy, and eviction matters;
- Assists Deputy Director Administration & General Counsel as needed with day-to-day legal issues from various departments within the Fund.

Work Environment/Physical Demands: The employee in this position will be required to sit a desk for long periods of time. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc. Ability to climb stairs, walk through multi-story buildings, and travel statewide.
Required Education/Experience: A minimum of three to five years’ experience in commercial real estate closings. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Education/Experience: Paralegal certificate or associates degree in relevant area. Five to ten years’ experience in business and commercial transactional matters, including business formation, structuring and governance; commercial real estate leasing, finance, and development; and/or housing finance.
