What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Quality Specialist position at West Virginia University Hospital, Inc?
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Science, Health Information Systems or other health related field.
2. West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area.
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
1. Two (2) years of experience in data management or related field.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Assists with the collection of data through various methods such as chart reviews of patients, aggregates data, and analyzing data.
2. Reviews, analyzes, and interprets information and data from multiple resources to identify new and established patient information for inclusion into identified database fields
3. Maintains current and valid data in relevant databases.
4. Assumes primary responsibility for concurrent data collection and entry on specified data points with 98% accuracy.
5. Meets data completion requirements to assist leadership with daily, weekly, and monthly quality management activities.
6. Accurately deletes or archives appropriate patient information from the database
7. Notifies Clinical Research Specialist/s, Manager, Medical Director, and/or Oncology Quality Coordinator of incomplete, missing data elements or data entry discrepancies identified in database.
8. Tracks and validates data accuracy and timeliness.
9. Accurately assigns codes for all collected information.by working collaboratively with the Clinical Research Specialists, Office Manager, and/or HIM Department to assure accuracy of coding.
10. Utilizes specified registry /protocol codes when necessary.
11. Completes code assignment with 98% accuracy.
12. Provides and disseminates data and statistical information for research, education and outreach as well as assists with studies and audits for other service activities as requested by the Clinical Research Specialist/s, physicians and managers/ directors.
13. Reviews requested data to determine scope and availability of information and any known potential duplication of studies/protocols/quality management projects.
14. Reviews requested data with Clinical Research Specialist/s, physicians, Directors, etc. to assure compliance with Internal Review Board (IRB) for Investigational Study requirements.
15. Generates customized reports from database to internal and external departments as appropriate
16. Assists in consent tracking, screening and regulatory document management
17. Organizes and assists in the completion of requests for information (RFI) forms as well as requests from pharmaceutical companies, monitoring agencies and insurance companies.
18. Assists with the organization and availability of data for audit by outside agencies
19. Facilitates the establishment and maintenance of record keeping and filing systems.
20. Uses and maintains computer hardware and software.
21. Competently utilizes computer hardware and software programs including but not limited to: Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, dBase, Excel, Access, and Harvard Graphics.
22. Troubleshoots hardware and software problems as appropriate.
23. Assures completion of appropriate activities needed for database maintenance
24. Monitors and maintains the various computer information systems primarily for the Blood and Marrow Transplant/ Hematologic Malignancy Program.
25. In collaboration with others assists with the compliance of all Oncology Accreditation Designation criteria.
26. Maintains knowledge of JCAHO, ACOS, FACT, and other state statutes as they relate to the WVUH Cancer Program
27. Provides statistical reporting on patients as required for specified registries.
28. Participates in required education annually.
29. Maintains and continually improves technical skills needed to enter data, troubleshoot general technical problems, and adequately utilize relevant data entry systems.
