The Division for Land-Grant Engagement at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Volunteer Engagement Coordinator.
About the Opportunity
The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will lead initiatives that enhance volunteer recruitment, training, and retention. This role focuses on developing meaningful volunteer opportunities, implementing innovative recognition systems, and advancing community engagement through statewide collaboration and data-driven strategies.

Establish and maintain internal and external relationships to enhance volunteer recruitment initiatives.Develop and implement strategies for attracting, developing, and retaining a diverse group of volunteers including increasing underrepresented groups.Lead statewide efforts to train WVU faculty and community partners in research-based volunteer development, placement, and retention strategies and practices including WVU Tech and Potomac State.Develop introductory trainings that focus on recruitment, recognition, and retention of volunteers.Collaborate with other units and individuals to share relevant volunteer opportunities for current and potentialvolunteers.
Develop systems for recognizing volunteers in unique and meaningful ways (ex. Graduation service cords, etc.)Update and maintain support materials related to volunteer activity support (FAQs, etc.)Collaborate with CCE team members to seamlessly integrate service hour collection with engagement programming.Create and analyze reports to provide information regarding volunteer trends, community need patterns, and more, sharing this information with stakeholders to inform decisions and processesServe on teams / committees that will advance the volunteer recruitment, retention and trainingStay current on student volunteer research that supports student successDevelop and manage a recognition program for volunteers at the State and institution level.Collaborate with supervisor to raise funds for recognition efforts.Work with internal team to maintain a volunteer database / tracking systems that will prompt volunteers and faculty / staff on deadlines, trainings and volunteer opportunities, both county and state events.Conduct training and workshops on vetting process and systems for Division of Land-Grant Engagement.Oversee the daily operations of the iServe volunteer recruitment and management platform to include technical troubleshooting and communications.Provide support to stakeholders in need of finding, registering, and reporting community service needs.Approve all new organizations, volunteer needs, and recorded hour submissions on a daily basis.Support the recording and analyzing of co-curricular service program data in partnership with other units on campusand other WVU campuses.
Develop and sustain grant funding that will support volunteer efforts.Collaborate with Communications unit to maintain the website for the CCE and iServe.Promote community-based and volunteer opportunities, trainings, etc.Develop and collaborate on newsletters for volunteer management.In collaboration with the Division of Land Grant Engagement Communications Unit, coordinate media announcements, press releases, event coverage and special projects.Pursue innovative ways to collect and share stories from volunteers and related to their impact.Create and schedule content for CCE social media accounts, collaborating with other CCE team members.Platform Management & Technical Support
Oversee daily operations of the iServe platform, ensuring smooth technical functionality, troubleshooting, and communication.Approve new organizations, volunteer needs, and volunteer hour submissions.Provide guidance and support to all platform users, helping stakeholders find, register, and report community service needs.Serve as the liaison to Galaxy Digital's GetConnected team to collaborate on functionality and troubleshootingRegularly collect and analyze feedback from volunteers, faculty, and community partners to continuously improve the iServe platform and overall volunteer experience.Volunteer Recruitment, Training, & Retention
Develop and implement strategies for recruiting and retaining a diverse volunteer base, with an emphasis on underrepresented groups.Lead statewide training for WVU faculty, staff, and community partners, ensuring the use of effective, research-based volunteer management practices.Design introductory and ongoing training programs on recruitment, recognition, and retention of volunteers.Collaborate with various WVU units to share volunteer opportunities and increase engagement.Ensure that volunteer recruitment, retention, and engagement activities comply with relevant policies and legal guidelines, providing recommendations for any policy updates needed.Develop and maintain systems for volunteer recognition at both the state and institutional levels, including unique awards and acknowledgments.Create and sustain grant and fundraising initiatives for volunteer recognition efforts.Coordinate with communications teams to share volunteer stories and promote community impact.Data & Impact Reporting
Create and analyze reports to identify trends in volunteer engagement and community needs; share insights with stakeholders for program improvement.Support data collection and analysis efforts for co-curricular service programs across WVU campuses.Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate tracking of volunteer engagement and service hours.Use data insights to suggest new volunteer engagement strategies, adjusting programs to meet evolving community needs and interests.Serve as the lead for compiling an annual impact report for the Center for Community Engagement, including but not limited to, volunteer data from iServeQualifications
Bachelor's Degree Required : In fields such as Public Administration, Social Work, Education, Community Development, Political Science, or related fieldsA minimum of two (2) years of experience in programming and building partnershipsAny equivalent combination of related education and / or experience will be consideredAll qualifications must be met by the time of employmentKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
