to join our Science Department
Starting March 10, 2025
Courses to be taught include Natural Science & Engineering for grade 9 students.
This course uses hands-on engineering design projects to evaluate conservation
of energy concepts from micro to macro scales.

Job Title: 9th Grade STEM Teacher (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
Reports to: WHS Principal
Department: Science, Secondary 9-12
Work Year: 184 days per Unit A contract
FSLA Status: Exempt, Unit A
Job Goal: The Science Teacher fosters a love of learning that encourages student curiosity, engagement, and growth in a welcoming community of learners. Classes may include co-taught College Prep, College Prep and Honors levels. Professional collaboration is highly valued and part of the science department culture. Our science program utilizes a variety of resources as instructional materials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in a related field
- Professional Certification Required:
- MA DESE license in 9-12 Science
- SEI Endorsement
- Additional certification in special education and/or ESL highly desirable

Specialized Knowledge: adolescent development, curriculum frameworks, growth mindset, inclusive practices, cultural proficiency, anti-racist instruction, co-teaching, social-emotional learning, technology integration
- CORI and Fingerprinting: All appointments are conditional based on a satisfactory CORI and SAFIS Background Check per 603 CMR 51.00.
- Preferred Experience:
- Experience teaching English Language Learners and in a diverse public school setting
- Experience with students with special needs, including students with emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges
- Strong background in science instruction
- Demonstrated skills in effectively and appropriately integrating technology into lesson design

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Provide learning experiences across all subject areas as guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements, while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and engagement.
- Monitor students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate
- Evaluate and refine instructional practice and assessment strategies to increase student learning, engagement, and confidence
- Participate in professional development activities and meets district expectations for licensure recertification
- Participates in all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed
- Any other relative duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Science Teacher does not have supervisory responsibilities for other staff, except to direct any paraeducators who may be assigned to his/her/their classroom.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary, benefits, and responsibilities per the contract between the Westborough School Committee and the Westborough Education Association.
