Under the direction of the WIC Program Director the Qualified Nutritionist provides Nutrition Education and High Risk Nutrition counseling to all WIC Participants.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Obtain and evaluate medical and nutritional data of each participant to determine program eligibility.
Provide skilled nutritional care to individuals and families, and develop nutrition care plans based on nutrition assessment.
Conduct individual and group nutrition education sessions as well as food demonstrations to WIC participants using lesson plans as guidelines.
Verify that all qualifying criteria are submitted by various clinics and private physicians for accuracy.
Certify WIC participants in accordance with USDA guidelines and New York State WIC regulation.
Make all recertification and terminations.
Document nutrition education provided to participants or participants inability to attend or participate in nutrition education.
Schedule participants secondary nutrition education appointments and high-risk contacts.
Tailor food packages based on participant's needs and change food packages to ensure nutritional adequacy, authorized food packages.
Responsible for the development of literature, receipts and visual aids in establishing protocol for individual and group WIC sessions.
Participate in in-service training programs for professionals and para-professional.
Assist with the transfer of WIC participants.
Make appropriate referrals to community resources and food assistance programs to help participants achieve dietary objectives.
Initiates and provides nutrition consultation to all other team professionals and para-professional.
Therapeutic dietary instruction of participants for normal pregnancy, gestational diabetes, various levels of weight reduction and sodium restrictions, family nutrition and all other diets as ordered or indicated.
Collect Anthropometric and laboratory data to determine the risk criteria of participants.
Other related activities shall be deemed appropriate in assuring patients full nutrition services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor's Degree from and accredited college or university with a major in Foods and Nutrition.
