POSITION: Summer Camp Counselor
LOCATION: Westchester Country Club | Rye, NY
DEPARTMENT: Summer Camp
COMPENSATION: $15.00 per hour, Non-Exempt (Overtime eligible), Benefits
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Camp Counselors will supervise groups of 10-15 campers, ages 3-9 (all groups being comprised of children of the same age), while having at least one partner with whom they share responsibilities. This position is responsible for the overall safety and supervision of all campers, ensuring all campers are attended to at all times.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Daily attendance and dismissal records for all campers
- Supervision and facilitation of lunchtime activities
- Assist Camp Activity Directors with daily activities (including Arts & Crafts, Tennis, Swimming, Science, Cooking, Story Time, Boating, and Sports) planned for their campers, and participation in them, as needed
- Accompany campers to all areas of the camp property, including First Aid, bathrooms, and activity areas
- Attend daily staff meetings
- Attend mandatory pre-season orientation sessions
- Daily interaction and communication with campers, co-workers, and parents
- Communicate effectively with campers, parents, co-workers and WCC management

JOB QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
The following describes the general qualifications and physical, sensory and mental abilities normally associated with performing the essential functions of this position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Prior Counselor experience strongly preferred
- Minimum age requirement is 16 to meet NYS Minor Law Guidelines
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Up to date First Aid and CPR Certifications a plus
- Strong communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Highly responsible and well-organized in tending to campers’ daily needs
LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Must be able to communicate and interact professionally with Members and employees in English language (verbal and in writing)
- Friendly and courteous demeanor at all times
PHYSICAL, SENSORY AND MOTOR DEMANDS:
- Highly active, multitasking type of environment (group of children to direct and monitor)
- Frequent Standing for extended periods of time
- Frequent Walking
- Excellent physical fitness, visual acuity and sense of urgency to attend to young children’s needs
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors throughout the summer
