Job Summary : Responsible for the planning, coordination, configuration, installation, operation and project management of assigned telecommunication systems and projects covering analog and digital microwave, mobile and fixed wireless services, fiber optics, paging systems and subsystems. Provides support directly or in collaboration with Technical Services personnel, in performing maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of active hardware to meet enterprise business requirements. Makes decisions and provides advice in the areas of infrastructure planning, operation and maintenance which have the potential to affect the availability and reliability of core telecommunication services. Evaluates and repairs the physical network topology to maintain the integrity of the network environment. Participates in various projects to continually improve/upgrade the Telecommunications network infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Designs telecommunications systems of high complexity.
- Designs, configures, operates and troubleshoots at a hardware level, telecommunications systems including: microwave radio, mobile radio, fiber, fixed wireless, leased commercial services (cellular, CDPD, analog and digital), frame relay, ATM, closed circuit TV, recorders, SCADA, radio controlled load management, ground potential rise protections (GPR) systems, noise loading systems, OTDR's, digital test sets (T-birds), multiplexers, channel banks, network wiring systems, etc. Activities shall include, but are not limited to the following:
- Plans project activities and arranges project support resources.
- Designs and develops estimates, both preliminary and detailed.
- Inspects and coordinates Telecommunications systems installations.
- Coordinates design engineering activities of Telecommunications projects.
- Participates in the preparation and support of strategic plans for corporate telecommunications networks and services. Activities shall include, but are not limited to:
- Researches and analyzes customer business applications to determine functional requirements.
- Collects network performance statistics.
- Identifies potential improvements to communication systems to improve reliability, effectiveness and efficiency.
- Conducts engineering economic analyses of system alternatives.
- Prepares figures, exhibits, tables and text for planning reports.
- Provides client consultation and support and demonstrates the ability to effectively define and communicate problems, options and recommended solutions.
- Performs design reviews to insure compliance with company standards and update detailed designs and documentation.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience: 5 to 8 years related experience, required.
Education: Associates' Degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, IT or related technical field, preferred.
Licenses / Certifications: N/A
Other: Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques. Strong knowledge of Telecommunication systems. Understanding of Federal and State regulatory criteria and industry standards pertaining to applications, design, installation and operations of telecommunication systems. Knowledge of Accounting and Engineering Economic theory and practice. Strong knowledge of current Telecommunications issues, practices, technology and related developments.
