What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Lab Technologist position at Westchester Medical Center?
Job Summary: The Clinical Technologist is responsible for all activities with blood and blood components including, but not limited to, logging-in the units, thawing plasma, thawing and pooling cryoprecipitate, irradiate products and washing RBCs; setting up patient or blood product samples for testing by a technologist/automated machine; maintenance of lab equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Performing type and screen testing, cross matching, and antibody identification
- Calculating and preparing blood for exchange transfusion
- Ensuring blood inventory control is maintained at acceptable levels
- Recording all quality control and quality assurance activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed
- Ensuring all blood components intended for transfusion are in accordance with cGMP as required by NYSDOH, FDA, AABB, CAP and NYBC
- Handling other related functions as needed
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience: Transfusion Service or as a Generalist with prior Blood Bank experience preferred
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science or MT
Licenses / Certifications: Clinical Lab Technologists
