Job Description Summary:
The Ammunition Inspector, serving under the technical guidance of the Government Quality Assurance Specialist(s) (Ammunition Surveillance) (QASAS) or designee, operates within the Ammunition Division.
They conduct thorough inspections of ammunition items, ensuring compliance with safety and security standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts pre-issue inspections of ammunition items to ensure compliance with regulations and safety standards.
- Inspects vehicles, equipment, and storage areas to verify the safety and security of A&E materials.
- Supports inspections on A&E residue returned to the ammunition residue yard, certifying residue as explosive-free.
- Participates in amnesty management, including identifying, inspecting, segregating, determining serviceability, documenting, packaging for storage, and coordinating disposition of A&E materials.
- Validates material to ensure compatibility of explosive items, providing support for shipping and receiving operations.
- Assists in inspections of ammunition storage structures to ensure safe storage practices, identify structural deterioration, and maintain inventory and security standards.
- Records inspection results accurately in the Depot Surveillance Record (DSR) within the Munitions History Program (MHP).
- Adheres to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidance during ammunition maintenance, care, preservation, and preparation operations to ensure product safety and operational safety.
General Duties:
- Maintains general knowledge of ammunition processes, regulations, and inspection requirements.
- Performs duties on a rotational schedule for all assigned Munitions Branch storage locations.
Minimum Requirements:
- At least 2 years of experience in ammunition handling or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Comprehensive understanding of ammunition handling procedures and safety protocols.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards governing ammunition storage, handling, and transportation.
- Proficiency in the use of specialized equipment and tools for ammunition inspection and handling.
- Strong risk assessment skills to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards.
- Possession of relevant certifications or training in ammunition handling and safety.
- Exceptional attention to detail and observational skills.
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures related to ammunition accidents or incidents.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
