Summary - We have an immediate need for a Process Engineer. This role involves working in a liquid/solids separation laboratory while also cross-training in a biological laboratory. The Process Engineer will manage multiple projects, conducting laboratory and field process analyses and testing to develop solutions for treating water and wastewater in industrial and municipal applications.
Some of the work you will do:
- Receive, process, characterize, and dispose of samples, including chemical and microbial screening.
- Conduct bench-scale testing to simulate full-scale equipment and evaluate process performance.
- Maintain and grow the microbial repository and inocula.
- Analyze and interpret testing data to generate actionable insights and determine equipment sizing.
- Perform basic analytical sampling and testing.
- Prepare and manage documentation, including testing reports, forms, proposals, and estimates.
- Clean and maintain laboratory workspaces.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external customers through written, graphical, and verbal methods.
Here are the skills that you need:
- Bachelor's degree in Biological, Civil, Mechanical, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Solid foundation in chemistry and microbiology with proven technical report writing skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, databases, and related software for data management and reporting.
- Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented with excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
- Experienced in problem-solving, time management, and handling multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiar with industry-standard laboratory conduct, safety protocols, and able to work independently or collaboratively.
- Willing to travel domestically and internationally (up to 20%) for testing, pilot operations, start-ups, and troubleshooting.
- Positive attitude with a strong commitment to completing projects effectively.
Here are the skills and qualifications that will set you apart:
- Chemistry Laboratory Expertise: Hands-on experience in wet chemistry analysis using instruments such as pH probes, turbidimeters, spectrophotometers, and balances.
- Biological Laboratory Proficiency: Skilled in sterile technique and classical microbial methods, including agar plate preparation, serial dilution plating, heterotrophic growth counts, colony characterization and isolation, slanting, and microscopy.
- Experience in Solids-Liquid Separation
- ICP-MS Expertise
- Mechanical Skills: Demonstrated ability to design, build, and operate bench-scale bioreactor systems or maintain lab-scale pumps through previous work experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work at a desk using a computer and phone system.
- Regularly required to move around the facility.
- Capability to lift samples and testing equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Comply with all safety regulations.
- Up to 20% domestic and/or international travel is required.
