What are the responsibilities and job description for the Long Term Substitute - Spanish Teacher position at Westerly Public Schools (RI)?
General Statement: The World Language Teacher is responsible for developing competencies, knowledge and skills in aurally comprehending, speaking, reading and writing a foreign language, in accordance with students’ abilities in grades 6-12 in a student centered, vibrant, thought provoking classroom that emphasizes language and cultural introduction. The teacher and student communicate purposefully in the target language as listeners, speakers, readers, writers and viewers.
Responsibilities:
- Manage student learning in accordance with the goals of the District.
- Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
- Organize students for effective instruction.
- Ensure the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
- Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
- Comply with and support school and District regulations and policies.
- Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students.
- Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.
Qualifications:

Experience:
- 2 years of relevant experience preferred.

Education:
- Bachelor's Degree required.

Certification & Licensing:
- Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements and or certifications.
- Authorized to work in the USA
- Current national background check without disqualifying results at time of hire.
Please note: As a District position, placement is always based on Student and District needs through the school year. This position is also subject to lay off at the end of the school year.
