The Foundation Director is responsible for the overall management of development efforts and stewardship of external resources on behalf of Western Dakota Tech. Resources include private contributions from donors and private / foundation investments through the Foundation. Provide leadership for the Foundation and coordination between the Foundation, the community and all departments of the College. Recommends to the President and the Foundation Board of Directors, courses of action which strategically link the needs of Western Dakota Tech with available external resources, both private and public. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws; and the Foundation's policies and practices.

Position Essential Duties

  • In cooperation with the President of Western Dakota Tech, develop a comprehensive strategic plan for resource development in support of the College's goals.
  • Work with the Western Dakota Tech's President and Foundation Board to develop, prioritize, and implement broad-based funding campaigns to address strategic funding needs.
  • Work in cooperation with key Western Dakota Tech personnel, the Foundation Board, and community partners to develop and implement a capital campaign strategy that will identify priorities, new relationships, new sources of funds and new ways to fundraise.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans that incorporate industry participation and institution support.
  • Develop strategic initiatives for the planned giving program to supplement and enhance other fund development programs. Work with community agencies and representatives to encourage, solicit, and recognize the components of this program.
  • Identify new business and program opportunities with business, non-profits, education, and government entities.
  • Identify, develop and maintain prospective corporate and foundation partners through active and extensive participation in community activities.
  • Integrate private contributions, private grants, and institute initiatives, allowing Western Dakota Tech to address critical college needs.
  • Encourage individuals, corporations, and foundations to establish, or contribute to special funds through endowments, trusts, donations of gifts-in-kind or bequests.
  • Compose, type, and maintain routine correspondence, reports, and various other materials and projects. Submit reports and documents as deemed necessary.
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow Western Dakota Tech's alumni program.
  • Create, implement, and manage Western Dakota Tech's scholarship and endowment on behalf of donors.
  • Manage and monitor monthly financials through the Foundation's financial database; monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts, scholarships and endowments. Provide monthly financial reports to the finance committee and complete annual audited reports.
  • Perform related duties as the Western Dakota Technical Institute assigned. All tasks assigned must be performed on a regular and consistent basis.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business, Marketing & Sales, Human Services, or related field with a successful track record in sales and / or fundraising, or a combination of education and experience to perform this job successfully.

  • Knowledge of fundraising and fundraising strategies.
  • Knowledge of current technology used in educational services and scholarship databases.
  • Knowledge of managerial and leadership principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, functions, and organization of assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of budgeting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local codes, laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of project management and ability to organize and direct a project to completion.
  • Ability to plan and organize and be a self-starter.
  • Ability to promote excellent organizational, interpersonal, human relations, financial management, and analytical and team building skills to the Foundation team.
  • Ability to utilize the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
  • Ability to perform consistently under pressure of deadlines and other administrative demands and works cooperatively with others.
  • Sales ability- ability to use appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to gain acceptance of a product, service, or idea.
  • Negotiating skills - ability to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
