TITLE: Teacher Assistant PROGRAM: Head Start/EHS
POSITION SUMMARY: Performs all job responsibilities in a safe manner. Must adhere to the Standards of Conduct which includes that no child is left alone or unsupervised and follow reporting systems. Assist the teacher in the classroom in implementing activities and curriculum for children to promote growth and learning in all developmental areas. Assist in providing a safe environment for all children on the bus and in the classroom. Ride the bus implementing lesson plans that are an extension of the classroom (where transportation is provided) including pedestrian safety regularly. Maintain clean environments where transportation is not provided. Be a team player.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Have a degree in ECE or a CDA, or willing to obtain a CDA within 9 months of hire.
3. Enrollment into an AA program in ECE within one year of hire. Tuition reimbursement may be available upon request.
4. Experience working with preschool children in a classroom setting.
5. Ability to maintain records on a computer system or willing to learn.
6. Good verbal and written communication skills.
7. Bilingual in English and Spanish desirable, but not always required. The primary language in the workplace is English.
** Documented on the job, WICAP education and/or experience may be used as an equivalent to some of the experience and qualifications needed.
OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Regular kneeling, stooping, pulling, cleaning, bending and classroom maintenance.
2. Occasional lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
3. Daily visual observations of participants.
4. Demonstrated ability to supervise preschool children and ensure safe learning environments. This includes the physical ability to move quickly in order to respond to children who are very active and may need redirection or restraint in order to ensure their safety or the safety of others in the environment.
5. Must have or be willing to obtain a Pediatric First Aid CPR/AED Infant, Child and Adult certifications within 60 days from the date of hire.
6. No prior convictions of child abuse/neglect. Criminal History background clearance.
7. External Employees must complete and clear Physical and TB screen upon conditional offer to hire.
8. External Employees must complete and clear a Drug and Alcohol screening upon conditional offer to hire.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensures that no child is left unattended.
2. Ensure safety is a priority in performing all job responsibilities. Attend safety trainings and ensure adherence to the safety policy.
3. Assist in implementing classroom and bus curriculums as applicable.
4. Keep CDA current if applicable.
5. Maintain a clean learning environment including on the bus (where busing is provided), by preparing and planning daily activities and on the playground.
6. Perform custodial duties where transportation is not provided.
7. May be asked to travel to an alternate site as program needs arise to assist in that classroom.
8. Schedules and organizes their time to meet all job expectations timely.
9. Follows requirements outlined in policies, regulations, and operational procedures.
10. Participate in recruitment of participants.
11. Paperwork and reports are completed accurately and timely.
12. Model Respectful Workplace Policy when interacting with WICAP customers, community members and colleagues.
13. Be responsible to ensure compliance with confidentiality policy and HIPPA regulations.
14. Perform other relevant responsibilities as required by the program and as outlined in position expectations.
15. Participate in professional development, sometimes off-site, at the request and support of the supervisor.
16. Assure that a positive image of WICAP is portrayed at all times.
