Job Description
The Coatings Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the industrial powder coating process, ensuring efficient operation, and achieving high-quality coating results to support production goals. This role includes managing the installation of new coating equipment, scheduling coating activities, procuring materials, managing the maintenance of powder coating equipment, and building a skilled coatings team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, technical expertise, and organizational skills to maintain and improve the powder coating operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Installation and Maintenance
- Oversee the installation of new powder coating equipment, including wash booths, blast booths, powder coating rooms, and ovens.
- Collaborate with vendors, engineers, and contractors to ensure equipment is installed and operates to specifications.
- Develop and implement a preventative maintenance program to ensure all powder coating equipment functions efficiently and reliably.
- Production Scheduling and Management
- Develop, manage, and oversee daily and long-term coating schedules to align with production demands and deadlines.
- Optimize workflow and resources to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
- Coordinate with other production departments to ensure seamless integration of coating operations.
- Materials Procurement and Inventory
- Procure all materials required for the powder coating process, including powders, masking materials, cleaning chemicals, and safety supplies.
- Monitor and manage inventory to avoid shortages while maintaining cost efficiency.
- Develop relationships with suppliers to ensure quality materials and timely deliveries.
- Team Leadership and Staffing
- Hire, train, and manage a skilled powder coating team, including technicians, operators, and support staff.
- Provide clear direction, performance feedback, and ongoing development opportunities to team members.
- Schedule and oversee daily operations, ensuring crews operate safely and efficiently while meeting quality standards.
- Quality and Process Improvement
- Monitor coating operations to ensure products meet quality standards and customer specifications.
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize coating processes, improve efficiency, and reduce waste.
- Troubleshoot issues within the coating process, including equipment malfunctions and quality deviations.
- Safety and Compliance
- Maintain a safe and compliant work environment by enforcing safety protocols and ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and training to mitigate hazards and risks associated with powder coating operations.
