Job Summary
The Dental Education Coordinator will be in charge of the Dental Assisting program and the upcoming Dental Hygiene program. The Coordinator supervises all aspects of the College’s dental education programs, including faculty and staff. The Coordinator works directly with the faculty to identify and achieve expected program outcomes as they relate to the institution and program mission, and in accordance with stated local and state policies and guidelines, as well as those of accrediting agencies. The Coordinator maintains a spirit of responsibility and cooperation within the division and with other departments, college instructors and administrators, and staff. The Coordinator reports to the Department Head of the Health Sciences.

- Formulate, recommend, implement and evaluate program policy
- Participate in the recommendation of college-wide policies
- Interpret college and departmental policy
- Analyze and assess program outcomes through the College’s program review cycle
- Lead the decision making to meet expected program outcomes
- Develop and implement strategic program planning
- Maintain a cooperative and collaborative work environment within the program, division and college
- Prepare required reports to maintain accreditation
- Ensure compliance of accreditation standards
- Prepare, submit and maintain budget
- Identify, request and purchase needed equipment, materials and supplies
- Collaborate with other College personnel in the design and specification of needed new facilities
- Supervise routine maintenance and inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Maintain assigned laboratory space
- Assess community needs for Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene for continuing education
- Market the program and review program publications
- Develop, implement and maintain an ongoing program evaluation process
Personnel
- Participate in the recruitment, screening, hiring, and on-boarding of new faculty
- Supervise, evaluate, and orient part-time instructors
- Develop and coordinate an Advisory Committee or Business & Industry Leadership Team with a focus on recruiting and supporting students and developing learning opportunities that meet dental workforce needs.
- Promote staff participation in college committees and appropriate community and professional activities
- Promote professional growth and competence in the dental faculty
Curriculum and Instruction
- Develop, implement and evaluate dental curriculum to include courses and sequence, clinical sites and rotations, and outcome assessment.
- Review, select, and order course textbooks and learning resources.
- Develop schedule of course offerings in collaboration with other college departments.
- Teach dental courses within area of expertise
- Monitor student progress at clinical site
- Assess student clinical progress
- Assign faculty to teach specific courses
Advisement and Admission
- Advise students
- Recruit and select students within established guidelines and policies
- Develop, implement, maintain and evaluate admissions process
- Organize, plan and conduct Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting student orientation
- Maintain accurate, secure and confidential student files
- Serve as advisor, liaison and participate in Dental Club activities
- Perform other duties as assigned

Indoors in dental classroom, lab and clinic
Hazard Assessment
X-rays, dental instruments, potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens
Personal Protective Equipment
As needed in dental hygiene lab and clinic-safety glasses, gloves, gowns, masks
Minimum Qualifications
Requirements:
- Position requires either or (a) a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree or (b) a Master’s degree combined with an Associate degree in dental hygiene
- Must be a NC Registered Dental Hygienist or Dentist who graduated from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation
- Must be a DANB Certified Dental Assistant
- One to two years teaching experience required
- Two years of experience in a dentist’s office required
- Previous administrative experience with demonstrated leadership ability required
- Expertise in the areas of curriculum development, program administration, budgeting, and interpersonal communications
Preferred Qualifications
Three years of teaching experience preferred
