Position Summary:
Western Reserve Academy, established in 1826, boasts a historic 190-acre campus that is recognized as one of the most beautiful in America. The campus is home to over 40 buildings, including classrooms, athletic facilities, student dormitories, faculty residences, administrative offices, and more. WRA's dedicated in-house maintenance team manages all maintenance tasks, small renovations, and various projects.
The General Maintenance Technician plays a key role in supporting skilled trade workers and other staff by assisting with a range of tasks, including plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry. Additionally, the role includes performing vehicle safety inspections, helping with special event setup and breakdown, and carrying out general maintenance duties as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of clean-up tasks at job sites and other locations on campus.
- Pick up and deliver materials, furniture, supplies etc. on and off campus.
- Assist all trade technicians in facility repairs and maintenance.
- Unload delivery trucks, operate skid steer and other equipment.
- Perform general maintenance, custodial, and trash removal tasks.
- Perform basic grounds maintenance and snow removal, and clean-up.
- Complete Work Orders in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Provide backup support and assistance to WRA’s Electrician, HVAC Tech, Vehicle Mechanic, and Plumber.
- Assist in the completion of special event setup, operation and breakdown. Including but not limited to, supervising parking details, providing assistance during events.
- Assist in the coordination/completion of faculty moves on campus.
- Conduct daily safety inspections of transportation vehicles as required by the Ohio Board of Education and the Ohio Department of Transportation. Inspect and ensure the vehicles are properly equipped, cleaned inside and out in a presentable condition, tanks are full of fuel and in excellent mechanical condition. Record any findings on the Pre-Trip inspection form.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or his/her designated representatives.
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.
Requirements

Education:
Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
