The Western Slope Center for Children (d.b.a. "The Center for Children") is a nationally accredited, non-profit child advocacy center located in Grand Junction, CO. Child advocacy centers are specially designed as neutral, child-friendly environments where children can comfortably tell their story to a multidisciplinary team dedicated to their safety and protection.

The core services at the Center for Children include victim advocacy & support, forensic interviews, medical examinations, mental health treatment, and prevention education for community members.

MISSION

To promote healing and justice for children who are victims of violence and sexual abuse while striving to make the community safer through prevention, education, and advocacy.

POSITION

Mental Health Clinician (Full-Time)

Mental Health Clinicians provide individual counseling using trauma-focused therapy techniques to victims of child abuse & neglect and their non-offending family members. Clinicians may also provide immediate crisis intervention as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct evidence-based assessment of a child's need for mental health services, including identifying emotional and behavioral problems related to the trauma / abuse and interpreting results for families.

Provide on-site clinical services for child victims of abuse and neglect and ensure engagement with their non-offending caregivers.

Case management coordination with external family supports.

Consult with other agencies working with child victims involved in a criminal investigation.

Ensure wraparound services through community partners.

Attend meetings with community partners relating to the child's mental health when needed.

Be an active member of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) by attending monthly Case Review meetings to share relevant information about the client while protecting their right to confidentiality.

Attendance in Court for victim support when appropriate.

Provide Court preparation for children and families who are required to testify at a trial in cooperation with the prosecution.

Be responsible for administrative services, including scheduling appointments with clients, billing, and the appropriate necessary documentation.

Provide education to children, adults, and community partners on mental health and trauma.

Attend and present at trainings relating to child mental health treatment, trauma, and abuse issues.

Regularly report statistics on the mental health program to the Executive Director.

Understand and exercise the agency's protocols for best practices in Mental Health.

Assess and implement high standards in the field of Mental Health at the CAC.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Master's degree or higher in a mental health discipline.
  • Licensed to provide mental health treatment in the State of Colorado.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be a team player.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience in the field of child abuse and work with victims of abuse and neglect.
  • Understanding and utilization of one or more of the following modalities : Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Alternatives for Families Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT), and / or Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI).
  • Knowledge and experience collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Bilingual English / Spanish - written and oral communication.

    Salary : $58,240 - $62,400
