Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Safety & Emergency Manager who will be individual is responsible for implementing and conducting activities that support the Hospital’s Safety Management Program in accordance with State and Federal regulations, and voluntary standards concerning the safety of patients, visitors and employees at Western State Hospital and provides other support for the Risk, Safety,

Emergency and Quality Management programs as needed.

This position will also be responsible for implementing and monitoring the hospital’s safety plan and facility inspection programs for fire, safety, and emergency management for effectiveness; providing fire prevention, safety, and emergency management information in the form of signs, memoranda, posters, etc., to assist staff in the safe performance of their duties; perform additional hazard surveillance surveys as needed; and Complete 100% of required fire drills per shift per quarter in compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) regulations, which includes documenting each drill or actual fire.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of: TJC-EC Standards, Life Safety Code, OSHA, EPA, DEQ, NFPA, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and other applicable state and federal safety standards
  • Skills include: organization, critical thinking, interpersonal diplomacy/professionalism, initiative, information gathering/investigation, leadership, and problem

identification/solving

  • Abilities include excellent written/verbal communication; PC use, deductive and inductive

reasoning, CCTV video reviewing, and working independently

Additional Considerations

  • some college and/or experience in fields related to safety and regulatory compliance, surveys, and investigations in a healthcare setting
  • Working knowledge of Safety Management, Accident Investigation, Worker’s

Compensation, OSHA, EPA, DEQ and NFPA regulations, etc. CSP and/or CHMM certifications

  • bilingual
  • veteran
