Alarm & Detection Technician Apprentice

Western States Fire Protection is looking for a Alarm & Detection Technician Apprentice. The duties of this position are to assist the Lead Technician in the installation and repair of various low voltage systems and equipment. This position requires someone who is mechanically inclined, self-motivated, customer service oriented and willing to follow direction.

Job Responsibilities

  • Complete basic repairs and installations including moves, adds, relocates for all types of systems and devices
  • Interact with clients, field personnel and fire marshals
  • Read and understand construction drawings
  • Communicate and follow direction from Lead Technician 
  • Experience with Technology products
  • Flexible schedule
  • Customer service oriented
  • Perform routine inspections, testing and services of life safety product lines
  • Handle low voltage wiring and corresponding devices for the operation of low voltage equipment
  • Common knowledge of hand tools but will provide training for required tools 
  • Must comply with all company safety standard and existing company policies
  • Willing to work nights and weekends, as needed. 

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Fire protection experience is a plus but not required
  • NICET I within a year of hire is required
  • Possess an understanding of expenses and scheduling
  • Hold a valid driver's license; In accordance with Company Policy
  • Reliable transportation in accordance with Company Health & Safety Pocketbook
  • Willing to pass a post-offer drug test, background and reference check
  • Desires a career in the fire protection industry 

Lifting Requirements:  

  • Need to be able to lift up to 50lbs.

Physical Requirements

The following are estimates of activity types performed in a typical day as a Fire Alarm Technician. 

  • Stand or sit: 25% of the day
  • Walk (move, traverse): 40% of the day
  • Use hands/fingers to handle or feel (operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, position): 10% of the day
  • Climb (stairs/ladders) or balance (ascend/descend, work atop, traverse): 5% of the day
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl (position self to, move): 15% of the day
  • Talk/hear (communicate, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself, exchange information): 10% of the day
  • See (detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate, assess): 85% of the day
  • Reaching: 5% of the day
