Project Accountant
Purpose:
This role supports our project management team by providing timely and accurate financial reporting, maintaining subcontractor and vendor compliance, and overseeing project-specific transactions.
Job Responsibilities:
- Project Accounts Payable:
- Track purchase orders, progress invoicing, and assist with payment runs for subcontractors and vendors.
- Project Accounts Receivable:
- Generate monthly progress/draw requests and contract-specific invoices using industry-standard documents.
- Regularly update SOV and continuation sheets.
- Assist the accounting team with month-end collections.
- Subcontractor/Vendor Management:
- Communicate with subcontractors and vendors as directed by project managers.
- Initiate, track, and maintain subcontractor/vendor onboarding requirements (insurance, taxes, lien waivers).
- Review subcontractor insurance certificates, update tracking software with expiration dates.
- Contract Management:
- Maintain contract records (quotes, proposals, purchase orders, change orders).
- Assist with client communication regarding contracts.
- Project Liaison:
- Act as the liaison between operations, finance, and field operations teams.
- Audits and Reporting:
- Assist with and compile information for internal and external audits.
- Prepare cost over billings to ensure accurate project billing.
- Identify unbilled job cost items monthly, determine their inclusion in draws or coding as non-reimbursable, and report variances.
- Administrative Support:
- Create and maintain job files using company software and industry tools.
- Provide administrative support (research, reporting, information processing, etc.).
- Project Close-out:
- Attend accounting and project management meetings.
- Assist project managers and field service teams with close-out procedures.
- Confirm all costs are processed and included in final billing.
- Ensure subcontractor/vendor compliance through contract requirements, including final lien waivers.
- Assist in preparing warranty documentation and project handover to field operations.
Requirements:
- Education and Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Project Accountant in construction, job costing, or related fields.
- Minimum 2-year degree in accounting or business (4-year degree preferred).
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of project execution (timelines, schedules, budgeting, cost reporting, profitability).
- Excellent communication skills (internal and external).
- Strong organizational skills, personal accountability, and follow-through.
- High attention to detail and proactive problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in spreadsheets, financial reporting, and industry software (ProCore, GCPay, Textura, NetSuite, Zoho CRM, Quickbase, Intuit products, Microsoft Office Suite).
- Desire to learn and flexibility to adapt to new challenges and assignments.
Location and Schedule:
- Onsite role at our Park City, Utah, Corporate Office until 4/1/2025, then relocating to our new Sugar House office in the Salt Lake Valley.
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
