Position Summary:

We are seeking a Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) or LMHP-Eligible to lead clinical services for our Youth Violence and Substance Abuse Program. This role involves providing therapeutic interventions, assessments, and treatment planning for youth at risk of or involved in violent behavior and substance use. The LMHP or LMHP-E will also collaborate with community partners, families, and other service providers to deliver evidence-based care. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of youth and families in the City of Franklin and Southampton County.

 

Clinical Services

·       Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments to evaluate mental health, substance use, and risk factors for violence among youth clients.

·       Develop and implement individualized treatment plans focused on reducing violent behavior, addressing substance use, and promoting emotional and behavioral health.

·       Provide direct therapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group therapy, using evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and trauma-informed care.

·       Deliver crisis intervention and stabilization services as needed, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients and their families.

Program Development and Leadership

·       Collaborate with program staff and supervisor to integrate clinical services into the overall Youth Violence and Substance Abuse Program.

·       Offer clinical guidance and supervision to other program staff as appropriate, fostering professional growth and adherence to ethical practices.

·       Work closely with community stakeholders, schools, and juvenile justice agencies to develop and implement prevention and intervention strategies.

Community Engagement and Advocacy

·       Engage with families, schools, and community partners to educate and advocate for mental health and substance abuse resources for at-risk youth.

·       Represent the program in community meetings and events, building partnerships and promoting awareness of youth violence and substance use issues.

·       Ensure the program aligns with the goals and requirements of DBHDS and local community needs.

Documentation and Compliance

·       Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries, in compliance with DBHDS and Virginia Board of Counseling regulations.

·       Collect and report program data to monitor outcomes and ensure compliance with grant requirements, accreditation standards, and regulatory guidelines.

·       Adhere to all ethical and legal standards set forth by the Virginia Board of Counseling and DBHDS.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education and Licensure

·       Master’s degree or higher in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.

·       Active licensure in Virginia as a Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) or eligible for licensure, including:

o   Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

o   Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

o   Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)

·       Certification or additional training in substance abuse counseling, trauma-informed care, or violence prevention is preferred.

Experience and Skills

·       At least 2 years of experience providing mental health services to youth, preferably with a focus on violence prevention, substance use treatment, or trauma.

·       Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based practices such as CBT, MI, and family systems therapy.

·       Strong understanding of the social determinants of violence and substance abuse and how they impact youth development.

·       Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including youth from underserved or at-risk communities.

·       Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
