Job Description
Western Vascular Institute seeks a Surgical & Clinical Director to join our busy Vascular Clinic!
As a Surgical and Clinical Director, you will oversee our surgical and clinical department(s), including managing staff, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining quality standards to deliver optimal patient care. You will also support doctors and patients through various patient care management, organization, and communication tasks. The target is to promptly complete all activities accurately and with high quality.
The ideal candidate is someone who can be assertive and confident. You must possess great decision-making skills, excellent time management, and the ability to communicate with multiple Physicians and colleagues effectively.
Responsibilities
- Leading and supervising a team of surgical staff, including surgeons, nurses, surgical technologists, and additional support personnel, while also managing the surgery schedulers.
- Hiring, training, and evaluating staff performance while keeping current with staff competencies.
- Managing daily surgical schedules, optimizing patient flow, and allocating staff resources effectively while monitoring timecards, time off requests, etc...
- Monitoring surgical suite utilization and ensuring proper equipment maintenance while facilitating repairs.
- Overseeing pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative patient care.
- Implementing and monitoring quality improvement initiatives to minimize surgical complications and errors.
- Adhering to strict infection control protocols and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Reviewing surgical outcomes and identifying areas for improvement.
- Ensuring adherence to all relevant healthcare regulations, accreditation standards for The Joint Commission, and licensing requirements.
- We will ensure compliance with the Joint Commission by keeping binders up to date and reviewing all updates via the JCAHO website. You will also be present as the primary clinical resource during surveys.
- Ensure all logs and books are up to date for CLIA. Ensure staff is competent on the ISTAT. Troubleshoot the ISTAT and all lab machines. Ensure quarterly API testing is done and submitted and follow up on scoring. Meet quarterly with the lab director.
- Ensure all staff is current with BLS and ACLS. Schedule training for all departments when staff come due to stay compliant.
- With the help of the management staff, you will work to ensure we are meeting our MIPS measures.
- Handle all OSHA-related issues, such as needlesticks, fluid exposures, etc...
- Monitor sequelae
- Burn and transfer all images requested by patients and other physician offices/facilities.
- Manage patient complaints
- Facilitate staff flu vaccines and declinations, Hep B Vaccination series, and TB testing.
- Clinical & Surgical decision making
- Creating and maintaining a positive work environment.
- Perform additional duties and services as directed.
Skills
- Advanced degree in nursing (MSN) or a healthcare administration degree
- Extensive experience as a registered nurse in the operating room
- Proven leadership and management skills
- In-depth knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and patient safety protocols
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse healthcare teams
- Must be knowledgeable in sterilization procedures and protocols
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- NextGen/EMR knowledge
