Salary : $68,000 to $95,000 Annually (salary commensurate with education and experience)

General Statement of Duties :

The Education Department is seeking an outstanding and engaged teacher / scholar for a Full-Time, Tenure-Track position at the Assistant / Associate Professor level effective September 1, 2025.

Successful candidates will teach courses within the Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary and / or Moderate Disabilities Program according to candidate specialization and departmental need. Courses in our program align with our teacher education program's foundational pillars and Massachusetts' Professional Standards for Teachers and Subject Matter Knowledge expectations. Candidates with expertise in the following areas will be considered : Bilingual / Multilingual / EL / ESL Education and Literacy (ELA / Reading / Writing).

Duties and Responsibilities :

Duties include but not limited to :

Teach foundational and pedagogical courses, including courses such as Sheltered English Immersion and foundational Literacy courses.

Teach at the undergraduate level, advise undergraduates, and participate actively in the university community.

Engage in the department-wide anti-racism education work that seeks to promote the development and expansion of faculty and students' knowledge, and understandings in applying critical theories and culturally and linguistically responsive and sustaining pedagogies. Westfield State University's Education Department is committed to anti-racist pedagogy and practices that guide our department's fundamental beliefs in critical engagement with diversity, social justice, community building, scholarly inquiry, and critical reflective practice.

Westfield State University is proud to be a teaching university, where faculty are encouraged to develop innovative pedagogy for the classroom.

The teaching load is 24 credits each year, typically 12 credits each semester.

Provide excellence in teaching across different modalities including face-to-face, online, and hybrid classes.

In addition to the development and teaching of undergraduate courses, faculty are expected to engage in scholarly activity, which can take many different forms.

Faculty provide academic advising and other support to students. Opportunities to advise student research are available and encouraged.

Faculty are also expected to offer service to the department, university, and community.

Requirements :

Required Qualifications :

Earned Doctoral degree in Bilingual / Multilingual / EL / ESL Education, Reading, Language, and Literacy, or related field

Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in PreK-12 public school settings

Preferred Qualifications :

Prior teaching experience in higher education

ESL or Reading Specialist Massachusetts teacher licensure or equivalent

Teaching experience in PreK-8 settings in urban schools and communities

Experience with flexible format for course delivery (day, evening; in person, hybrid, online)

Evidence of effective use of learner-centered pedagogies and culturally relevant and sustaining practices

Salary :

Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies. State job specifications may be found on the Department of Higher Education's webpage .
