What are the responsibilities and job description for the EL Teacher position at Westfield Washington Schools?
- Provide support using best instructional practices-i.e., SIOP- through classroom instruction, collaborative teaching, coaching, etc.
- Assist in administering required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement for students in grades K-12, along with ongoing monitoring of student progress.
- Knowledge of student’s English Language Proficiency levels (via WIDA Language Proficiency assessment results; additional monitoring; etc.).
- Develop individualized learning plans (ILP) for all multilingual students receiving services, along with supporting classroom teachers when implementing plans.
- Ensure classroom teachers have access to and are implementing the accommodations and modifications within the ILP with fidelity.
- Consistent and frequent collaboration with classroom teachers to ensure instruction and assessments are appropriate for the multilingual students at their current level of English proficiency.
- Assist in ensuring equitable opportunities for multilingual students in accessing the general education curriculum (WIDA ELD standards, SIOP, etc.).
- Assist teachers, grade-level teams, and departments when gathering and reporting student growth and data with relation to local and state assessments.
- Committed to the participation within a Professional Learning Community at both the building and district level.
- Participate in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned.
- Attend IEP, Section 504, or other related meetings necessary for student assessment and/or compliance with federal and/or state law.
- Attend and participate in established traditional school-sponsored activities (i.e, back-to-school night, open house, and other activities customarily attended by classroom teachers and/or faculty members), which may be outside of regular school hours.
- Establish a school based plan to improve and increase engagement and participation of multilingual parents and families within our community.
- Other duties as determined by school level administration.
- Certified EL/ENL licensed teacher.
- Committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population that includes students with differentiated learning modalities.
- Experience working with best instructional practice-i.e., SIOP Model, Enduring Principles of Learning, etc.

EL Teacher
Reports to: School Principal
Overall: The English Language (EL) Teacher provides English language development (ELD) instruction to multilingual learners in kindergarten-12th grade based on appropriate licensing. The ideal candidate has experience using and implementing the SIOP model, exhibits superior organizational and communication skills (verbal and writing); is compassionate; is willing to collaborate; and is knowledgeable about recent research in pedagogy in the field of language acquisition and EL education. Additionally, the candidate should possess sensitivity to the developmental stages and well being of children and have a willingness to be flexible in terms of teaching assignment within the school setting.
