GENERAL JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the High School Principal and Assistant Principal, the Diploma Programme Coordinator manages the successful implementation of the IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12 at Westlake Academy. The DP Coordinator is a team member who contributes to building a school culture conducive for learning, maximizing each student’s success, and achieving established Westlake Academy goals and objectives.
The position of DP Coordinator at Westlake Academy is a 0.5 FTE. The remaining 0.5 FTE is a teaching position at Westlake Academy, making this a full-time position. The teaching assignment will be based on the needs of the campus.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required; Graduate degree preferred.
- State certification in related subject areas.
- Demonstrated competency in assigned core academic subject areas.
- Is legally able to work in the United States.
- Must complete the state-required fingerprinting and criminal background check.
Experience:
- Five years (5) plus of experience in an educational or IB environment is desirable.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation and the IB standards.
- General knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for in-person and online learning knowledge of core academic subjects assigned.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior in-person and online.
- Ability to support students with basic device setup, navigation, and technology issues.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality pertaining to students, employees, volunteers, and the general operations of Westlake Academy.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to accept and implement constructive suggestions or criticism in a professional manner.
- Continually strives to improve classroom methods, teaching techniques, increasing knowledge of content subject matter and interpersonal relationships.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Main Responsibilities
- Shares a strong commitment to the success of the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and to be willing to spend the time and effort required to achieve the goals and objectives in the classroom and in the school as a whole. Maintains a classroom conducive to learning.
- Collaborates with other teachers, school personnel, parents, and appropriate community agencies for the purposes of implementing the curriculum, improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, and planning curriculum.
- Collaborates with the MYP and PYP Coordinators to ensure the successful implementation of the IB Standards and Practices.
- Assists the Head of School and/or High School Principal and the Senior Management Team in the overall administration of the school, specifically regarding the DP.
- Ensures that members of the Westlake Academy community are informed about all aspects of the DP Programme and have access to necessary information and/or resources.
- Holds information events and workshops to develop community understanding of the DP at Westlake Academy.
- Works with faculty, staff, parents, students, and community groups as requested to promote educational activities and objectives.
- Communicates effectively with students, faculty, parents, colleagues, and in the community.
- Assists the High School Principal/Assistant High School Principal with instructional coaching for the DP faculty.
- Balances coordinator responsibilities with teaching responsibilities.
- Responsible for assisting the Head of School and/or High School Principal in the budget process, specifically regarding the organization of training courses.
- Leads professional workshops within the school and encourages staff to have a working knowledge of the DP and know how to access appropriate resources through both the IB and other sources.
- Responsible for ensuring DP faculty attend the appropriate subject-specific IB workshops.
- Responsible for the introduction of new students, specifically to ensure that parents and students have sufficient understanding of how Westlake Academy functions.
- Gathers evidence of the school meeting the IB standards practices and leads the preparation for the DP evaluation.
- Assists the Head of School and/or High School Principal with scheduling.
- Organizes parent meetings.
- Supports the Extended Essay (EE) Coordinator in the management of the EE process.
- Works with the Special Education department and 504 Coordinator to ensure all needs are being met related to the DP.
- Responsible for the submission of all DP assessment material to the IB to meet required deadlines.
- Responsible for ensuring the regular academic monitoring of all DP students.
- Works with the counselor and campus testing coordinator in carrying out state or other testing.
- Responsible for the DP examinations, both in May and for mock exams in March.
- Responsible for planning and coordinating the DP calendar.
- Provides guidance for the implementation of the academic integrity policy to both students and DP faculty.
- Attend faculty meetings and other appropriate staff meetings.
Communication
- Maintains professional relationships and communication with parents, students, and campus personnel; ensures that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
- Stay informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Teachers should keep abreast of developments in My IB and the Programme Resource Center.
- Participate in professional development activities that are aligned with campus goals, assigned areas of responsibility, and the varied needs of students.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other Duties
- Assists in the proctoring of state, internal, AP, or IB examinations.
- Assists with educational visits.
- Supports the Westlake Academy House system.
- Performs other duties, as assigned by the High School Principal and/or Head of School.
- Attends Board of Trustee meetings, as and when required.
EVALUATION
The performance of this job will be evaluated at least annually by the High School Principal or Assistant Principal.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Direct the work of instructional paraprofessionals.
