What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mohs Histotech position at Westlake Dermatology?
Westlake Dermatology is looking to hire a 1 day a week PT Mohs Histo Tech working at our Houston West University location with a start date of April 1st 2024. Prefer availability on Wednesday but open on Monday day or Thursday. Mohs histotechs adhere to all laboratory policies and regulations. Work with minimal direction; consults with technologists and general supervisor as needed. Functions as a liaison between the laboratory and laboratory clients. Operates general laboratory equipment, including by not limited to: telephones, computer keyboards and, and microscopes. Effectively communicates via written, verbal, face-to-face, telephone, and computer methods. Responsible for skillfully preserving, cutting, staining, and mounting tissue sections onto microscopic slides.
Typical
- Embeds specimens
- Routine microtomy, cuts and mounts paraffin sections onto microscopic slides
- Prepares slides for routine H & E and special stain procedures
- Cover slips and route slides and protocols to pathologists
- Performs and documents scheduled preventative maintenance
- Files paraffin blocks and microscopic slides
- Maintains records and documentation required to manage the daily workflow and provide QC/QA monitors
- Must be able to troubleshoot areas of processing, embedding, cutting, staining
- Must have the capability of flexing schedule to accommodate workload
- Performs and documents scheduled preventative maintenance
- Immunohistochemistry send out, and special stains
- Understands and follows ALL safety and OSHA guidelines
- Communicates with laboratory staff and its clients to ensure quality patient care
- Maintains and supports a service-oriented relationship with customers
- Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to clients and patients
- Strives to maintain a positive work environment
- Demonstrates interpersonal skills required to successfully perform as a team member in a constantly changing environment
- Grossing dermatology specimens
- Understands CLIA guidelines
- All other duties as assigned
Periodic
- Participates in all continuing education programs required to keep certification current in addition to continuing education programs.
Qualifications
Education:
Required – High school graduate or equivalent.
Preferred but not required– H.T. (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP), An Associates or Bachelor degree in Science.
Experience:
Minimum – Certification or certification eligible and One-year Histology experience with Mohs
Skills:
Ability to work as a team member. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the laboratory and with laboratory clients. Ability to adapt to a changing work environment by organizing and prioritizing time and resources in order to produce the most effective work performance. Ability to assess work tasks, recognize limitations and request assistance when appropriate. Must be able to meet department standards for cutting and embedding within the probationary period.

Compensation: $26 - $30 hour (plus 401K options for part-time employees)
