About the Role - JOB SUMMARY: Plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of assisted living areas in accordance with current state and local regulations that govern the facility and as may be directed by the Vice President of Resident Health Services to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. Provide support and resources needed to enhance the well-being of the residents, their families and those involved in their lives.
Responsibilities - MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Interview, hire, supervise, coach, evaluate, discipline and assist employees in setting and meeting performance goals.
- Develop and monitor performance and responsibilities of assigned staff while monitoring patterns.
- Provide leadership that fosters a team mentality, modeling the organization vision and mission while creating and preserving a strong framework for management team interaction and evidence-based decision making; practice internal as well as external public relations and customer service with staff, residents and those of the greater community of WCR and the Richmond market; model and promote the use of a common management vocabulary and language.
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct assisted living operations, programs and activities and ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory and accreditation guidelines and standards.
- Direct and coordinate the functional interdisciplinary process to include working to plan, implement and monitor audits and develop any necessary plans for correction.
- Coordinate and support residents during times of transition to and from Assisted Living.
- Develop, maintain and update written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day operations of assisted living.
- Lead the assisted living team to ensure operations are survey ready at all times.
- Adhere to required staffing levels to ensure compliance with Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) regulations.
- Prepare department budgets, statistical monthly report, and budget variance report; prepare specialized reports upon request.
- Continue ongoing communication with residents, families responsible parties, physicians and others as appropriate.
- Monitor occupancy levels and success indicators in assisted living.
- Lead Assisted Living Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives and fulfill committee responsibilities as outlined in the Quality Assurance Program for the organization.
- Problem solve and counsel residents, families and others as appropriate on issues which impact their daily lives.
- Facilitate support groups and/or arrange for educational opportunities for areas of concern for the residents or those involved in their care.
- Active member of the Corporate Safety Committee and Healthy Aging Resource Team (HART).
- Use and adapt to new technologies, computerized systems and processes, to impact productivity of department and services.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications - PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Considerable amount of sitting, bending, standing and walking
- Ability to lift 25 pounds without assistance, 26 with manual or mechanical assistance
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
- Knowledge of VDSS standards for licensed assisted living facilities
- Ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public
- Ability to interpret, communicate and implement policies, procedures, regulations, financial records, reports, etc. to staff, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies/personnel.
- Ability to make sound decisions and choices independently based on objective analysis of a situation and under pressure and/or adverse conditions
- Ability to lead and motivate staff to achieve the desired results
- Ability to work harmoniously with and supervise staff and develop/maintain good personnel relations and employee morale
- Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc. that are necessary for providing quality care and maintaining a sound business operation

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
- Understanding and knowledge of culture change in the long-term care setting
- Knowledge of regulations related to safety and security
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, social work or related field
- Valid license as an Assisted Living Facilities Administrator in the state of Virginia in good standing
- Two to four years’ management experience in related field
- Five years’ experience in long-term care or retirement community
- Certified Dementia Practitioner or obtained within one year
- First Aid and CPR certified or obtained within one month
DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, social work or related field
- Certificate of successful completion of Direct Care Staff Training as a Nursing Assistant by VDSS
- Registration to practice as a Medication Aide in the state of Virginia
- Valid license as an Assisted Living Facility Preceptor
- Experience in a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC)
