POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Finance Clerk at Westminster Presbyterian Church is a highly collaborative member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church (WPC) team and plays a key role in providing financial expertise and wisdom to help WPC accomplish its mission by ensuring good stewardship and the overall financial integrity of the church. The Finance Clerk is responsible for WPC's accounts receivable and payables, payroll, and will assist in stewardship management. The Finance Clerk will report directly to and work closely with the Executive Director. In addition, the Finance Clerk will collaborate with the WPC Treasurer, a member of the Session, in best practices of accounting principles. The Finance Clerk is a part-time position working approximately 25 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
Financial
· Oversees and maintains the financial records of the church.
· Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of all deposits, accounts receivable, accounts payable, journal entries, and bank reconciliations.
· Prepares fiscal records and reports in a form compliant with generally accepted accounting principles, including monthly reports of assets, liabilities, equity, income, and expense, with supporting schedules including but not limited to income versus expense and budget along with footnotes or narrative regarding significant trends or variances from budgets.
· Reconciles bank statements to all accounts monthly (including credit card transactions).
· Maintaining the General Ledger with electronic and physical support records of cash receipts and accounts payable documents ensuring that all files are kept orderly and accurate.
· Works with the Executive Director in the analysis and preparation of annual budget, balance sheet, and forecasts.
· Responsible for inputting annual budget information for the new year and for closing out prior year finances.
Stewardship
· With the Executive Director, assist in the counting of all service offerings.
· Report to the Executive Director via the weekly offering form, an updated profit and loss sheet identifying the total breakdown of weekly contributions and providing a detailed statement on any surplus/deficit.
· Assists in preparation of the yearly stewardship campaign and maintains pledging records.
· Responsible for the posting of contributions to individual member records.
· Provides quarterly statements and giving records for all contributions in a timely manner.
Payroll
· Prepares timely payroll for the church staff.
· Runs payroll on a scheduled basis using the payroll system.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's Degree or relevant experience in Business, Finance, or related field preferred.
· Minimum of two years’ experience using GAAP accounting and fundamental Accounting/Finance Experience, preferably in a church or nonprofit.
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information.
· Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership at WPC to include the Executive Director, Senior Pastor, Session, and WPC staff.
- Must be able to work positively with others and promote an atmosphere of cooperation and collaboration.
· Must maintain strict confidentiality.
- Excellent customer service skills, including ability to maintain focus and professionalism with people in challenging situations, both in person and by phone.
- Excellent time management skills, including ability to manage several projects at the same time.
- Good oral and written English communication skills, including a clear speaking voice.
· Proficiency in accounting software: Quick Books Online.
- Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel are required.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
