Director of Advancement

The Westmoreland Museum of American Art seeks an experienced Director of Advancement who will be responsible for the oversight of all fundraising efforts and government relations. The Director of Advancement is a member of the senior leadership team of the Museum, managing a team of Advancement and Membership professionals and collaborating with senior and executive leadership in conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives that will fulfill the Museum’s vision and provide a secure future. The position reports directly to The Richard M. Scaife Director/CEO.

Essential Functions:

Fundraising

· Lead all fundraising strategies, including individual gifts, grants, corporate and special campaigns.

· Develop strategies with the CEO and CFO for major gift requests and oversee high-level donor relations.

· Develop strategy for restricted grant requests for exhibitions, programming and special projects.

· Manage a portfolio of donor prospects

· Identify and cultivate new funding opportunities and corporate partnerships.

· Oversee membership growth strategies and donor stewardship activities.

· Supervise advancement staff, ensuring performance through hiring, training, and mentorship.

· Oversee fundraising and cultivation events

· Manage the Development Committee

Government Relations and Community Outreach

· Build relationships with local community organizations and business leaders.

· Oversee government relations, including managing relationships with elected officials and advocacy efforts.

· Represent the Museum publicly and advocate for institutional initiatives.

Senior Leadership

· Participate in strategic decision and planning as a senior leadership team member.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree and five years of senior management experience in nonprofit arts organizations with supervisory experience.

· Proven track record in budget management, grant writing, strategic planning, and donor relations.

· Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and familiarity with CRM systems.

· Strong communication, relationship management, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.

· Collaborative spirit, adaptability, and professionalism.

· Knowledge of the southwestern Pennsylvania philanthropic and government community.

Work Schedule:

1. This position requires five days per week in the office unless meeting with current and potential donors and corporate partners. Flexibility for occasional remote work may be considered.

2. May travel for professional conferences and must be able to drive to local events.
