Position Overview: WNS is seeking a full-time, experienced School Bus Driver who is committed to our mission of fostering a positive, supportive, and enriching environment for our students. The Bus Driver will be responsible for operating a Type 1 school bus on designated routes, including field trips, sports trips, and other school-related activities.
Essential Job Functions:
- Safely and efficiently operate a Type 1 school bus, ensuring timely transport of students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and field trips.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure bus is in safe operating condition.
- Ensure students are picked up and dropped off safely, adhering to school safety guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of daily routes, trip logs, student attendance, and vehicle maintenance.
- Perform crossing guard duties to ensure safe student movement between campuses.
- Collaborate with school staff and parents to maintain effective communication and address any concerns.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory standards for school bus operations.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Assist in other duties as needed, such as loading and unloading students during school activities and trips.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience driving a school bus or similar commercial vehicle.
- Proven track record of safety and reliability.
- Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or school environment.
- Ability to perform basic bus maintenance and identify when professional repairs are needed.
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of all required training and certifications to operate a Type 1 school bus (including CDL with passenger endorsement and other applicable certifications).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of state and local regulations related to school transportation.
- Excellent driving record and familiarity with operating a school bus in varied weather conditions.
- Ability to maintain accurate and organized records, including trip logs and vehicle maintenance documentation.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and school staff.
- Ability to maintain composure and ensure safety in stressful or emergency situations.
- Good judgment and decision-making skills, particularly regarding student safety and vehicle operation.
- Flexibility and reliability to manage variable routes and schedules.
- Basic mechanical knowledge of school buses (bus maintenance and repair experience is a plus).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while driving and remain alert and focused.
- Ability to lift and move items as needed, including assisting students in and out of the bus.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening as required by law.
Schedule & Compensation:
- Full-time position, 8-hour possible split shift.
- Includes driving morning student routes, field trips, and after-school sports.
