Music Specialist
Westtown School Summer Camp is seeking enthusiastic applicants for the position of Music Specialists to work June 9 through August 1, 2025. The Music Specialist will be passionate about developing campers' confidence and conveying the importance of teamwork while inspiring campers to dig deep to learn about music, genres, notes, rhythm, and so much more! The Music Specialist will be asked to create a “music class-like” environment for campers, focusing on fun, creativity, and teamwork. Applicants should be at least 18 years of age or older. The regular hours will be 8:30 am to 4:15 pm.
Westtown School Summer Camp is a traditional day camp program serving children ages 4 to 14, located on Westtown School’s 600 acre campus near West Chester, PA. At Westtown School Summer Camp, discovery and education await every child in a creative, supportive, and inclusive environment rooted in the school’s outdoor education traditions. Camp staff members lead campers in a wide variety of action-based educational projects each day. Our camp programs reflect the highest standards of respect, inclusion, and cooperation between counselors and campers.
Essential Responsibilities
Develop culturally competent and responsive lessons and learning activities that promote problem-solving, creative thinking, collaboration, and effective communication skills while encouraging risk-taking in learning;- Provide progressive general music instruction to elementary-age campers;
- Ignite a love of music in all campers;
- Lead group singing with a guitar during community gatherings;
- Actively involve campers in the studio through group work, exploration, questioning, discussion, and other cooperative teaching techniques;
- Communicate effectively with all constituents – campers, staff, and the Camp Director
Contribute to building and sustaining an inclusive community and a program that reflects diverse cultures and perspectives.
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age
- 2 years experience working with children
- Prior experience as a dance instructor either at another school, camp, or music studio
- Ability to walk, stand, and lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and respond appropriately
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to constantly supervise campers.
