What are the responsibilities and job description for the Employee Health and Infection Control Nurse position at Wetzel County Hospital?
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1 Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a registered professional nurse OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
2. If hired after 08/01/2020, Obtain Certification in Infection Control upon hire.
If hired prior to 08/01/2020, Must obtain Infection Control Certification within 6 months of hire.
3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Five (5) years of nursing experience with at least three (3) years of experience in infection control.

1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN).

1. Conducts new hire screenings and annual employee health screenings to include health history, immunizations update, and brief physical assessment.
2. Provides education prior to administration of annual vaccinations. Provide follow-up to ensure compliance with applicable policies. Records all vaccination information in accordance with policy and federal law. Plans, implements, and conducts annual flu vaccine program.
3. Conducts investigation of personnel post exposure to blood or body fluids and counseling for post exposure incidents.
4. Facilitates and/or expedites assessment of Employee Health related issues, providing necessary interventions or making appropriate referrals as applicable.
5. Maintains Employee Health records and documents care provided as per procedure.
6. Develops and maintains Employee Health and Infection Control policies and procedures. Monitors compliance of practice with established standards of practice.
7. Prepares and/or reviews daily the list of significant cultures. Cultures are selected using the definitions for infection as set by Centers of Disease Control and any modifications identified within the Infection Control Manual.
8. Reviews Medical Records if patient dies or is discharged before surveillance information is complete, or if patient returns to Hospital and has a significant culture result so as to include discharge infections in monthly report.
9. Advises health care colleagues about hospital isolation policy and disposition of infected/colonized patients and adequate, courteous handling of patients.
10. Checks patients in isolation to determine if isolation is appropriate and institutes necessary isolation measures for new case, as recommended by isolation policies. Ensures with each isolation case that both nursing and medical staff is apprised of need to start or stop isolation measure as recommended in isolation policies.
