What are the responsibilities and job description for the Compliance Specialist position at Wexford Community Credit Union?
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Responsible for ensuring the Credit Union is in compliance with all state and federal regulations. Reviews and appraises the soundness, adequacy, effectiveness, and proper application of accounting and financial controls and of credit underwriting. Assesses the adequacy and extent of programs designed to safeguard Credit Union assets. Assists with internal audits. Compiles and issues reports detailing conclusions and providing recommendations for improvement. Prepares and files reports with government agencies as directed by law.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assumes responsibility for the Credit Union’s compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
- Ensures compliance with applicable financial laws and regulations.
- Analyzes and reports data as required.
- Reviews and implements regulatory changes.
- Assists management in developing procedures for compliance issues.
- Conducts periodic reviews of existing policies to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Ensures policies and procedures are updated and are in accordance with evolving regulations, legal requirements, and industry trends.
- Performs auditing duties to ensure accurate completion of credit union documents.
- Ensures accounts have all necessary documentation and meet regulatory standards.
2. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with co-workers and with management.
- Assists co-workers as needed.
- Keeps management informed of areas of concern.
- Completes and submits required reports, records, and related documents.
- Attends meetings as required.
3. Assumes responsibility for ensuring professional business relationships are established and maintained with members, regulatory agencies, auditors, appraisers, and business associates.
- Maintains the Credit Union’s professional reputation.
- Resolves complaints, questions, and problems promptly.
- Provides assistance as needed.
- Provides member assistance and answers questions in relation to compliance issues.
- Assists members with potential fraud issues, and potential vulnerable adult exploitation.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Stays informed of trends, current events, and developments in compliance issues.
- Ensures work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
- Operate computer terminal and applications.
- Complete special projects and assist as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
Performance is measured by:
1. The Credit Union is in compliance with all state and federal regulations. The safety and soundness of the Credit Union is ensured.
2. Compliance functions are well coordinated with departments and branches. Assistance is provided as needed.
3. Good member and business relations exist.
4. Management is appropriately informed of areas of concern, with recommendations provided as needed.
5. Required records and reports are completed accurately, on time, and archived per records retention guidelines.
6. Quality of working relationships with all staff, including management.
7. Professionalism in the degree in which one projects a positive image and adheres to policies regarding professionalism in appearance, conduct and communication.
8. Training responsiveness and achievement through continued education as required.
9. Attendance.
