TITLE Special Education Supervisor
DATE OF POSITION OPENING On or about July 1, 2025
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION The individual selected for this position will serve on the special education administrative team, supervise Wexford-Missaukee ISD staff members, supervise special education programs and/or services, and assist local school districts.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education in determining planning, fiscal, and organizational needs regarding special education programs and services
- Create and maintain an environment in which all staff members can feel free to constructively contribute to the goals and objectives of the WMISD Board of Education
- Assist the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education in working with Parent Advisory Committee
- Maintain regular communications with the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education, other administrators, and staff members to create positive working relationships
- Provide positive interactions with students, parents, WMISD staff members by providing quality information, useful skills and relevant materials
- Support WMISD and LEA administration and WMISD staff members by providing quality information, useful skills, and relevant materials
- Schedule and conduct growth planning meetings, observations, record reviews and summative evaluations for all supervised staff assigned and forward documentation to the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education, as requested
- Maintain a high level of professionalism in the administration of all programs, and create a positive image of the WMISD to the general public while ensuring quality programming for all students
- Problem solve a wide range of challenges, use initiative and flexibility daily, to maintain continued delivery of Special Education educational services
- Prepare, maintain, and evaluate all necessary records as directed by administration and the Michigan Department of Education
- Be well organized and work effectively with specific timelines
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Assist in the development of long-range planning and staff in-services
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and commitment to the mission and vision of the WMISD
- Other duties may be assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidate must meet the Michigan Department of Education’s criteria for Full or Temporary Approval as a Special Education Supervisor.
- Candidate must possess a State of Michigan School Administrator Certificate
- Must have a Master’s degree or higher
- Full Approval in at least one area of Special Education
- Must have at least 3 years of successful experience in the field of special education
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Must have demonstrated technology skills
- Must have demonstrated skills and knowledge of human relations and the change process
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques, writing behavior intervention plans, functional behavior analysis, implementing positive behavioral supports, etc.
- Knowledge of and/or willingness to develop skills in: Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), Conscious Discipline, Assistive Technology, START Training, skills to support complex communication needs, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and other similar items will be helpful
- An ability to relate well to others and use good interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of curriculum and progress monitoring
- Experience with students with Autism, students of low incidence populations, and students with behavioral challenges is highly desirable
- Must have demonstrated skills and knowledge of human relations
- Able to independently lift 50 pounds
- Ability to pass Criminal History, pre-employment physical, and Drug Test
