Position Summary:
The Accounting Manager will oversee accounting operations across VanRock Holdings' multiple verticals while also playing a hands-on role in day-to-day tasks, including data entry, reconciliations, and further development of accounting processes to align with industry best practices. This position requires a proactive leader who can perform core accounting tasks while also spearheading process improvement and ensuring compliance across divisions.
This is not strictly a supervisory role. While you will mentor and manage the AP/AR Accountant, you will also perform essential operational tasks to ensure the department's success.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting for VanRock’s Vertical Divisions:
- Property Management:
- Reconcile security deposit accounts and client funds accounts monthly.
- Prepare financial reports, including rent rolls, CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations, and occupancy reports.
- Produce and analyze monthly cash flow statements for properties.
- Supervise and perform owner distributions to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage tenant billing, security deposit tracking, and lease compliance.
- Multifamily Asset Management:
- Track and report on asset performance metrics, including revenue, expenses, and ROI.
- Contribute to financial modeling for acquisitions and refinancing activities.
- Affordable Housing Non-Profit:
- Work with the Board to help reconcile and manage the Non-Profits finances.
Operational Accounting Tasks:
- Conduct bank and account reconciliations monthly, ensuring accuracy across all verticals.
- Develop and document accounting processes in line with industry best practices to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
- Monitor and maintain the general ledger, ensuring proper account coding and entries.
· Perform and manage data entry for invoices, tenant payments, and other accounting transactions during high-volume periods.
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
- Oversee and assist with AP/AR processes, including vendor payments, tenant billing, and utility invoicing.
- Reconcile tenant accounts, track delinquencies, and generate AR aging reports.
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Supervise and mentor the AP/AR Accountant, providing hands-on support and guidance.
- Collaborate with vertical leaders to ensure seamless financial reporting and operational alignment.
- Partner with the VanRock leadership and Fractional CFO to drive financial strategies and align department goals with VanRock’s mission.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulations specific to property management and construction, including trust fund and security deposit laws.
- Prepare for and assist with audits, tax filings, and monthly reporting.
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- CPA or equivalent certification (preferred).
- 5–8 years of accounting experience, with expertise in real estate operations, property management, or construction.
Skills and Competencies:
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Appfolio, Sage, QuickBooks) and Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to balance supervisory duties with hands-on operational tasks.
- Experience developing and optimizing accounting processes.
- Plus, but not required: Experience with property management accounting software (e.g., Yardi, AppFolio, or Buildium) and multi-entity accounting.
