We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Accountant to join our dynamic engineering firm. This role plays a key part in supporting the financial success of our projects by overseeing project setup, client billing, budget tracking, compliance, and financial analysis. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, a deep understanding of project accounting practices, and experience working in the engineering industry.
Key Responsibilities
Project Financial Management
- Set up new projects and maintain accurate financial records throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare and issue monthly client invoices in accordance with contract terms (lump sum, time & material, and percentage of completion).
- Conduct monthly revenue recognition, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and job cost analysis.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to input, track, and maintain project budgets, including monitoring additional service fees and scope changes.
Sub-Consultant & Compliance Oversight
- Review sub-consultant contracts and insurance certificates for compliance with company policies.
- Track sub-consultant payment status and coordinate with AP to ensure timely payments.
- Assist with reconciliations of consultant accounts payable.
Contract & Documentation Management
- Prepare and maintain job opening documents, change orders, lien waivers, retainage tracking, and other compliance documentation as required by project contracts.
- Support Project Managers and Team Leaders with project information.
- Project review and analysis.
Accounts Receivable & Reporting
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up with clients on outstanding invoices.
- Respond to audit requests and ensure accurate documentation and timely responses.
- Support the implementation of financial best practices and process improvements.
- Perform special projects and ad-hoc analysis as requested by management.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 4 years of experience in project accounting; A&E industry experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Deltek Ajera or similar project accounting software is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles related to project-based work.
- Ability to analyze project and financial reports with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
