Whatcom County Public Works is recruiting for the position of Accounting Supervisor. The Accounting Supervisor position leads the day-to-day operations of the Public Works accounting office. The successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively handle multiple priorities and deadlines. Key duties include:
- Overseeing financial operations in a multi-fund environment.
- Assisting in the preparation of the department budget and monitoring expenditures.
- Providing monthly reporting
- Assisting managers and supervisors with monitoring of budget to actual expenditures.
- Monitoring and assuring compliance with grants and contracts.
- Preparing year end reporting to funding sources including State of Washington BARS
- Coordinating with the Finance Department on the annual audit
- Supervising Public Works accounting staff

Salary Range:- Unrepresented- Range 7
Hiring rate depends on qualifications. This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range (apx. 3.8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or public administration or a related field;
- 4 years of progressively responsible related accounting experience;
- 2 years supervisory experience;
- Completion of the course work requirement for a CPA is desirable, including 36 quarter hours of course credit in each of the following: (1) accounting and (2) business.
- Experience in local government and with an integrated financial management system is desirable.
